Those superintelligents, picking their appearance to make themselves seem more rational then their opposition. Question is, how did he know Niue would be there? Just because she’s important?

Maybe he knew she would because he knew it would be funny.

Which would be frightening, because a villain who knows how to manipulate the laws of comedy to their favor is the most dangerous of them all.

It is possible that the hat was not part of some diabolical plot, but was, in fact, just a hat.

Hats, like wheels, are not to be trusted.

I’m sure H.T. was just trying for a jaunty, urbane air when he chose his attire, all part of the disguise for us naked plains apes.

Driving Niue nuts was a happy accident*, not part of the original design.

      *for all of us

It’s a reasonable assumption that Niue would be there, and if she wasn’t then a hat is just a hat.

Niue and the teddy bears are the League council (plus Squeaker, but he doesn’t get out much). They sent the non-human criminals to the cavern. It was pretty much guaranteed that they would be there.

(TUNE: “A Horse With No Name”, America)

When we freed transgenic bad guys,
    Maya told us “They’re vi-o-lent!
    There are mugs and thugs
    And smuggler bugs,
And it’s humans that they resent!
It’s their natures true that they’ll show to you
When they see the light of day!”
    Then we see H.T.,
    And he smiles at me,
    Asking “Which way’s the ballet?”

    You see,
    He comes out of prison,
    He’s a cat in a hat!
How politely he’ll greet us and chat!
He is free now … and he’ll show his good will!
    He’s a hat-wearing monster Niue will kill!
(meow meooow meoooow mew mew mew meow
    mew mew meoow meeeeee-oow…)

So hats are like goatees for transgenic bird-people? That has possibilities….

I’d say this one cuts both ways, but it’s only the hippie that’s trying to blindly advocate on someone else’s behalf:

“Whenever A annoys or injures B on the pretense of saving or improving X, A is a scoundrel.” – H.L. Mencken

That’d be quite a meal, even for a tiger. Maybe if he didn’t indulge in bread-sticks before the meal…

Well, I’ve always wanted to believe the H.T. stood for “Hungry Tiger” (from the Oz books). But point taken. Still the guy was a *small* hippo.

My hypothesis is that Renard would have already arranged for quick and discreet disposal of both the the remains of the hippo and anything else in the cave which at first glance might raise the eyes of law enforcement.

Perhaps he has the phone number of a certain “Mr. Wolfe” who specializes in blood-stained car upholstery, carpeting, etc.? I think being a pack hunting carnivore could only help with that kind of business.

i don’t get it. human law already handles bomb threats. and we’ve got plenty of tigers locked up, too.

I’m thinking of what happened to the pork chop in “Joe’s Apartment”… only with more roaches. Even more than that guy in “Creepshow” had…

    Niue annoys me.
I am a collector of hats. She and I are natural enemies.
