Nick the hero! I always knew he had it in him.

I can’t decide what theme music should be playing at this point. There’s a part of me holding out for the old 6 Million Dollar Man score.

Why is the helicopter depicted as going down a runway in order to take off?

I’d have to go back and watch the episode that scene is in, but I believe he’s not so much “taking off” as he is escaping horizontally, using the afterburner. Notice the helicopter behind him turning around as if it’s going to pursue.

I’ve seen choppers do just that- they *can* lift straight up, but slow and gentle liftoffs are nice…

The scene where he’s rolling down the runway is hardly “slow and gentle”. For a typical helicopter without an afterburner to accelerate that fast horizontally, they’d have to tilt so far forward that the nose or even the rotor blades would hit the ground.

Nick could do it to a small extent because he can tilt the entire rotor assembly, but can’t do a full horizontal takeoff because of the length of the proprotor blades.

Super Mario Brothers 1 underground theme.

At this point, all I can think of is Marge’s line from the episode of The Simpsons where Homer gets a toupee. “If your fly weren’t unzipped you’d look like Roger Moore!”

And now, not only is the drone Niue’s best friend, but he has also saved her from an almost-certain grisly demise at the hands — er, claws — of a giant mutant crustacean.

How can he possibly follow up that first date?!

Nick really is amazing. Like a Paladin with propellers.

Paladin was talkier and more polite. OTOH Nick doesn’t give out cool business cards with his address in Shaenon’s city…
If he hadn’t stuck the landing I’d’ve said Ralph Hinckley…

*This* is why you hire a rigger, chummers.

      Or at least an adept.

Null drek, but an adept does it in the meat, a rigger does it in the chrome. Slight difference there (speaking as a rigger).

But really, now is when we could really use a street sam. Or at least someone with points in Artisan (Crawfish Boil).

I think my favorite part is niue calling them “best gestalt friend”.

Video game tester who is literally tied into the machine, yeah, this makes sense. If they really need this date to go well, have Nick control the body, with Tip feeding Nimue the needed lines. Sweetheart can stand to one side, and in true management style, take credit later. Presumably this can occur after they escape the commissary.

Sweetheart shouldn’t just stand to one side, but she should delegate. Tell Nick and Tip how she wants the date to go, and let them make it happen. Also, she can give mid-course corrections as needed.

“Best gestalt friend” can fly better than she can.

This might be the most action packed comic yet drawn. I can only imagine the dark stare Shaenon leveled upon seeing this script.

    So we have:

    – A military trained war hero
    – A bred-for-war science dog
    – A war machine Zombie

And the biggest badass of the group:

    – A gamer.
