Just don’t get the categories “jerks” and “people who disagree with me” confused. There’s certainly going to be some overlap, but it’s always going to be partial.
There is a difference between occasional jerkery and full-blown jerkhood. I’m all for tolerance and understanding, but there are some people who are just a waste of perfectly good protoplasm.
This is why I defend freedom of speech for jerks. I’m willing to bet I can find someone out there who thinks you’re a jerk, and I damn well know I can find people who think I’m a jerk.
I’m pleased to say this is true. Even on the scorched earth of teh interwebz, I have managed to find people I can have civil conversations with even as we boldly disagree.
OTOH, it’s dramatic convention for the hero/heroine to turn down the first call to action, so perhaps we shouldn’t take the absence of the Cypress from the coming climactic conflict as a given.

I don’t think it is petty – her vindictiveness is vast, it embraces multitudes. Probably genetically enhanced.

I don’t like the jerks. When I am younger, sure, ok, but not so much now. Maybe I change, maybe they change. Who knows?
