Petty vindictiveness is a surprisingly enduring motivator.

It’s one thing that has kept me going through adversity.

Amazing how much of history could be attributed to it.

Does it count as petty vindictiveness if you meant it as a joke, Like General Sheridan at the Battle of Chattanooga? He accidentally ordered a charge that changed the outcome of the battle after complaining to his men that the Confederate artillery were being rude because their shells got his uniform dirty.

Sounds like a good thesis to me.

I don’t think it is petty – her vindictiveness is vast, it embraces multitudes. Probably genetically enhanced.

Terry Pratchett did once describe “bloody-mindedness” as one of the fundamental forces of the universe.

Just don’t get the categories “jerks” and “people who disagree with me” confused. There’s certainly going to be some overlap, but it’s always going to be partial.

We are most of us jerks at one time or another, present company excepted of course.

There is a difference between occasional jerkery and full-blown jerkhood. I’m all for tolerance and understanding, but there are some people who are just a waste of perfectly good protoplasm.

This is why I defend freedom of speech for jerks. I’m willing to bet I can find someone out there who thinks you’re a jerk, and I damn well know I can find people who think I’m a jerk.

I’m pleased to say this is true. Even on the scorched earth of teh interwebz, I have managed to find people I can have civil conversations with even as we boldly disagree.

OTOH, it’s dramatic convention for the hero/heroine to turn down the first call to action, so perhaps we shouldn’t take the absence of the Cypress from the coming climactic conflict as a given.

Sometimes more, depending on the corpse supply.

Sticking it to jerks. That reminds me…how’s Tip getting on in his disguised subversion?

I don’t like the jerks. When I am younger, sure, ok, but not so much now. Maybe I change, maybe they change. Who knows?

I thought paperwork was Sweetheart’s greatest source of job satisfaction?

Of course, “job satisfaction” and motivation are two different things… 😉

The Cypress has been through a lot. She won’t even try, like as not. But a happy benchmark is in finding a spark to stick it to jerks quite a lot.
