Someone’s an introvert. Nick’s comment feels really familiar.

I know Marcie is right, but can anyone recall actually seeing a male character wearing a “skant”? And, really, male or female, why would you chose that for a duty iniform if you had other options? “To goose the ratings,” aka fanservice, is not an in-canon answer. (Though maybe it is for Jeff and Shaenon?)

I dunno, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people who selected their wardrobe for fanservice purposes in the real world.

Hallway scene in one of the first episodes.

        They don’t show up much.

I’d have to say “yes” for Shaenon given the number of times that particular part of the 4th wall was smashed in Narbonic.

I believe it happened exactly once, in the first or second season.

According to Memory Alpha, it was shown on men five times in the first season (one being reused footage). It was last used by women in season two (four times, always with trousers) apart from flashbacks.

In NG, pretty much all the guests at Chief O’Brien’s wedding wore theirs, including Picard while he performed the ceremony.
In Lower Decks Boimler has one that he’s just looking for an excuse to use.

Keep it in perspective, Chris. You may be wearing girl clothes, but Nick is wearing the whole girl.

And, Nick, she already said yes. You’re past the hard bit.

Is “scared” to “horrified” a lateral move, or an improvement?

The unisex element is why Tip is upset. It just isn’t his style.

      September 19, 2013, 2:12 am | # | Reply

That’s not Tip – that’s Chris, Marcie’s colleague in the Department for Irradiation.

It’s likely Nick may be persuaded to wear the Starfleet uniform, but one popular fanservice costume from a certain hexalogy of films would be considerably more difficult to convince him to wear…

      Slave Leia.

Heck, that may even be a step too far for Tip…

        September 19, 2013, 3:26 am | # | Reply

That’s Lt. Chris to you! See the pips?

… What? Everyone can read Next Gen rank pips, right?

The fact he’s wearing Lieutenant pins doesn’t necessarily mean he’s a Lieutenant. *O’Brien* wore Lieutenant pins on TNG.

          • soft
            September 19, 2013, 9:31 am | #

Then what was he? Forgive… I’ve seen next to nothing of TNG.
But just to put this out there… rank often doesn’t mean much when the position held has its own title (ex: the “Captain” of a ship is called a Captain, regardless of their actual rank).

            September 19, 2013, 1:49 pm | #

That’s because O’Brien’s rank was banjaxed. There is, predictably enough, a Wiki entry on the topic: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Miles_O%27Brien#Problematic_Rank_History

(TUNE: “If I Only Had A Brain”, Arlen & Harburg)

To the movies we are going,
Where Star Treks they are showing
    As soon as evening falls!
    But away I’ll be backing,
“Cause my nerve is sorely lacking
And I haven’t got the brawls!

With a green girl from Orion
Jim Kirk will soon by lyin’,
    Until a crisis calls!
How I wish Lee and me could
Be like that, and it would be good,
But I haven’t got the brawls!

What Chris … agreed to wear
    Is not what anyone expects!
The clothes … he’s wearing there
    (And underwear)
    Are unisex!

For the girl on whom I’m crushing,
    I’m nervous and I’m blushing,
    My courage simply stalls!
    In a li-ter-al sense, an’
    An emotional dimension,
I just haven’t got the brawls!

Psyching yourself up is a trap. It doesn’t make things easier, it makes them harder.

The best way to go, the easiest option, is to hold your nose, shout ‘Geronimo!’, and jump straight into whatever has you freaked out.

That’s the case for me, anyway.

Chris, I think you’re showing how thin the line between courage and insanity can be. Then again, if you can go out in public in that getup, you’re a braver man than I.

    C’mon Nick, show some heart.
If your predecessor can go out to find his true love after his full-body mod rusted out on him, you can watch some Star Trek with yours.

Now, admittedly by the time Nick Chopper found Nimmee Amee, she had already re-married, but still . . .

No! You are Nick Zerhakker: Black Ops helicopter, certified Whimsy Princess, and Tin Man allegory! You don’t got da nerve? EVERY BIOLOGICAL PART OF YOUR BODY IS NERVE. Get in there, civilian, and romance some scientist to the sound of Star Treks 1 and 2!
