In biology, ‘extirpation’ is the removal of an organism from a location it previously inhabited.
For example: ‘the Smooth-billed Ani* is resident in coastal southeastern Florida, the Bahamas, and Cuba. It is extirpated from coastal central Florida’.
* It’s a real bird!
In regular usage, it can also mean complete destruction. How this involves walnuts I’m not sure.
