Everyone shines their sites with the same rag? How terrible! Think of the white shoes turned brown!

Her name is Rodesko, so obviously all Anasigma footwear is red.

It’s possible Polishing Rag N-2 is a style of rag they stock, like how a kind of paperwork can have the same designation and appearance but many copies.

Or it could be just one rag. Anasigma doesn’t seem to place much stock in common sense.

Actually, the joke seems to be that Polish Rag N-2 is a specific kind of rag, the sole purpose of which is to polish shoes. There would almost certainly be more than one. To illustrate through humour, Cleaning Rag N-7 and Mop N-1 would be used to wipe your blood off the floor and walls after your literal termination for using Polishing Rag N-4 or (depending on how much of a daredevil you are) Polishing Rag N-3 instead of the specified Polishing Rag N-2.

Footwear puns will result in extirpation.

          Only if they’re not well-polished.

Funny thing is, I’d almost expect the wrench to reply.

In this comic it’s more out of place for NOT doing so.

This is right about the first strip of Skin Horse I ever saw. I could tell right away that I liked it. But with Jonah zapping himself back and forth through time, and the shoe shining policies and talk of extirpation I had ABSOLUTELY no idea what was going on. Took me forever to figure it out.

I’m here in August, 2019 and I still haven’t figured out what’s going on.
