Seems she is being “the man” now… trying to oppress his personal style.

He’s actually got a point there. Remaking the world in her image means she’s imposing her vision of propriety on other sapients.

Eraser820 makes a great point as well.

I see why she’s concerned. Rap’s a little Nineties for her style, ya dig?

Funny enough, the first “rap” song came out in 1979 – “Rapper’s Delight” (the one with “I said a hip, hop” lyrics), which was the tail-end of her preferred decade, but still within it.

Can’t tell if ‘Archimedes’ is a reference to the mathematician, Merlin’s owl, Dreiberg’s airship in ‘Watchmen’, or the medic’s pigeon in TF2.

Now that I read my comment out loud, I’m going to go with the Merlin one.

The “beat and a place to stand” is clearly about the mathematician, and the shape is Merlyn’s owl. Who was of course presumably named for the mathematician. And why *wouldn’t* Tigerlily make references to classical philosophers and T.H. White at the same time?

Dear dragon and my fiiiine fallen angel, it behooves you to lay eyes on the story title. An owly square named Archimedes in “Once and Future” is most certainly *that* reference on at least one of its levels.

Shaenon LOVES sticking literary references everywhere they can possibly go. Wouldn’t be surprised if Jeff does too. If something can be multiple references at once, even better!
