Ask a transvestite:
Bobby pins are a very small type of hairpin, with one side crimped and the other slightly curved to match the curvature of the head. The pin Tip’s holding is a type most commonly referred to as simply a “hairpin”, or less commonly as a “classic pin” or “amazon pin”. It’s about three and a half inches long, with about half an inch between the tines, both of which are crimped. There is no skull curve in either tine. They’re very useful for old-fashioned loose updos and for affixing wigs, both of which Tip seems to favor.
What is Tip holding in the last panel?
A hairpin, though it was probably meant to be a bobby pin.
It is a bobby pin

Not sure if we’ve ever seen Tip in a wig. Nevertheless, very informative.
They’re also the stereotypical cheap man’s lockpicks, but in reality, bobby pins aren’t strong enough to unlock anything larger than a jewelry case.
And you know this how, exactly?
