Likely closer to genderqueer. He’ll likely still identify as male, which is his birth gender. And given that Violet isn’t his actual body, just a drone he operates, Violet’s sex probably has less of an effect on his mentality than the sex of his helicopter.
If he still identifies as male but his ‘body’ is ‘biologically’ female, then yes, he’d be transgendered.
But if Nick identifies as female while piloting Violet, then yes, you could say she had a transgender history.
The catch is, of course, he actually identifies as non-human (it’s how he qualified for SH assistance after all) and sees the helicopter as his ‘real’ body… so the point might be moot!
I’d say since it’s a remote operated drone, the fact that its pilot is male doesn’t make him (the pilot) transgender, even if that pilot is a transhuman and would thus occupy only the female body.
Or more of a female impersonator? Tip has gone full drag before but he did not use a female character to play the role (if I’m getting this right). Violet’s last pilot was a male but had a whole separate female character playing the role.
Either way, Nick is going to be nick. Just with boobs and a vulva.
Seeing as Nick used to be – still may be – a client with a specific problem (loss of old body) that could be kind-of, sort-of remedied by his request (new body)… can they actually say no?
Losing his old body isn’t a problem for him though. He identifies as a V-22 Osprey and not as a human piloting a V-22 Osprey. There may be some ethical questions about the freedom of transfer an accepted transhumanist may be afforded, but there’s no question about whether he misses his old body in favor of the plane.

I wanna drive the robot body,
I wanna pilot Violet Bee!
I wanna sit and stand and hold the hand,
Hand of Miss Virginia Lee!
I wanna take her out for dinner and a show,
Then we’ll go back to my place!
I wanna drive the robot bo-o-o-o-dy,
So I can suck some face!

It’s funny how many guys have a problem with men running female avatars. I run both male and female, so does my wife. A friend of mine described it perfectly: if I’m going to spend hours in front of a computer watching someone run, I want them to have a nice butt.
I note that her last “pilot” didn’t actually identify with the role in the crunch either — to his detriment, as he might have done better by keeping “her” mouth shut. (And did we ever figure out what caused that sudden communications break?)
If the swear filter blocked every word that has ever been used as a vulgarity, obscenity or in a blasphemous manner, Nick would have a very hard time communicating.
Actually he could use the argument that having an avatar that could be seen to be his pilot might make him a little less conspicuous. Throw a flight suit and a helmet on her and he can land at just about any civilian strips or pads a lot more covertly. A lot more covertly than a talking, obnoxious and pilotless craft would be anyway.
I am still not convinced that Violet herself doesn’t have some degree of autonomy, a la rogue Seven of Nine-style; either that, or her pilot has been pretty inconsistent. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but it’ll be interesting to see. Oh yes.
Sure. What could possibly go wrong in giving control of a humanoid drone of unknown powers and capabilities to a sexually frustrated, semi-sane used-to-be-a-human-geek AI who now lives inside the electronics of a helicopter…
This is a best idea ever, and so much can, and probably will, go wrong
Drive may have been a euphemism.
These meetings drone on and on….
…Does that make him transsexual?

It was also indicated that Violet’s last pilot was a male. Making her more similar to Tip- a male transvestite.

But not nipples, apparently.
In Soviet Russia, vehicle drives YOU!
i’m so sorry for making that joke there really isn’t any excuse

Kinda surprised you spoofed that song without retaining “Sweetheart.”

You’re welcome guys! ^.^

The term for a guy operating a female body remotely is “average MMO player”.
That too. lol.

Is Nick getting crap past the radar (or the swearfilter)?
IINM in Shakespear’s time fishmonger was slang for something sexual (mybe pimp?)
If the swear filter blocked every word that has ever been used as a vulgarity, obscenity or in a blasphemous manner, Nick would have a very hard time communicating.
Heh, you wrote “hard”.
Also “blocked,” “used,” and “have.” You vulgarian you!
From what (very) little I know of the english language, in Shakespeare time just about every word was slang for something sexual.
Actually he could use the argument that having an avatar that could be seen to be his pilot might make him a little less conspicuous. Oh, and give her a new last name, like Ferro.
“We tried a Black guy, but he kept getting pulled over” from _Men in Black_.

More like Lunevka from Girl Genius.
I can understand missing hands. This way he can *AHEM* perform “maintenance” on himself.
This is my new favorite Skin Horse strip….
Anyone else hear the tolling of an iron bell in panel 3?
No, but I did hear the drone of a V-22 Osprey.
Um. What is wrong with this idea, exactly?
Sure. What could possibly go wrong in giving control of a humanoid drone of unknown powers and capabilities to a sexually frustrated, semi-sane used-to-be-a-human-geek AI who now lives inside the electronics of a helicopter…
Silly question but, would Nick be able to control/drive Violet properly?
I know ‘she’ has a gyroscopic array so standing up isn’t going to be a problem, but what about moving limbs?
How much of the fine motor (no pun intended) skills is built into the body, and how much is from the remote operator?
Nick is so integrated into his body/airfraime, I wonder if he is even capable of using/controlling humanoid limbs any more?
Unity’s giving it some thought.
Eight years later and I still laugh at this particular strip.
