My favorite tactic my old GM used was to take polls (of drunk sailors) mad libs style. Collect them into lists and use them for random effects rolls. We used to mix 1st and 2nd edition D&D with GURPS and whatever books we were reading at the time.
I’m fairly sure that seeing cherenkov radiation in air INSIDE the room you’re in is a good sign that you should be running. Or that you’re already dead and have a good hour or so to enjoy while your body rapidly disintegrates.
If the Cherenkov radiation is being produced by electrons moving across the surface of the ceiling at near C velocities, it probably isn’t dangerous to those standing in the room below.
Ra-di-a-tion makes the sky!
Ra-di-a-tion level’s high!
There’s a secret room within the park …
It’s always sunny, never sad or dark!
There’s information … that we want to share!
We’ve got special suits, that you must wear!
Look out for Ra-di-a-tion …
Lotsa gamma rays through you will pass! Ra-di-a-tion …
That Cherenkov guy, man, what a gas!
We’ll help you find the answer!
You’ll get the scoop … and get cancer!
If you die, then like the sky,
You’re blue!
Yeah, you!
So, there’s some kind of unshielded nuclear reactor in here? Possibly masquerading as a smiley sun? That Unity might want to take home with her?
Well played indeed, Gavotte.
Since it wouldn’t require additional manufacture or printing – I like the idea of more prose.
Perhaps a series of ‘behind the scenes’ Sunday editions w/ maybe a video of how the two of you interact when developing storylines and art. (obviously on a delay so there are no spoilers)
“Dumbing of Age” is drawing on their previous use of the same characters – so maybe (since it was the two of you collaborating in the first place) a collected PDF version of “a brief moment of culture” from Narbonic Sundays.
You have teased us before with the names of the other organizations at the annex – perhaps a map of the annex, or a phone directory (all redacted of course). (I was visualizing JK Rowling’s ‘desk’ on the Potter website as I was thinking that)
If the current rate of funding continues, you’ll have enough money to do an animated feature film.
Seriously, this is amazing! Today’s newspapers had an article about how some major Kickstarters are doing great, but some are failing. I think the difference is that the ones failing are by people who are out of touch with their fans, or who don’t really HAVE fans for the planned project. For instance Melissa Joan Hart’s Kickstarter failed, but it was for a TV pilot unrelated to any of her previous acting work, and didn’t have enough information to generate a following. Contrary to popular belief, Kickstarter isn’t a money tree.
That’s actually the simplest explanation to why the sky is blue. I’ve ever heard. But even if they are electromechanical Americans, wouldn’t the radiation degrade their minds? But since heart squirrel said it is the sky, that’s probably already happened.
That isn’t an explanation, it’s just the name of a physical process. There’s a difference. One might as well say that the real sky is blue due to “Rayleigh Scattering”, but that’s only useful to someone who actually knows what Rayleigh scattering is.
The Cherenkov radiation actually has nothing to do with the plot – it’s just Jeff’s cunning plan to force Shaenon to draw Sweetheart in an “adorable” outfit.
Better do as you are told, Sweetheart or Heart Squirrel will use its mind controlling Care Squirrel powers on you and actually make you happy to be there. The horror.
I’ve always loved the quirk of physics that creates Cherenkov radiation, but not until I saw it in the NarbonHorseVerse did it occur to me how mad-science-y it is. “I can’t go faster than the speed of light? Well maybe I’ll SLOW LIGHT DOWN! That’ll show it!”

And now we know why geeks hate blue sky… Cherenkov’s radiation!
Its really more of a sapphire blue, or perhaps electric indigo
It really depends on the energies involved. Get them high enough and the Cherekov radiation might even (appear to) shift down into the green.
It’s like somebody took my three most demented RPG campaign ideas, threw them into a blender, and set it to ‘chop.’

I’d say “I might have to use that for something” here, but I don’t actually understand what you said. Could you explain the process again?
Wow, it’s always nice to meet another Synnabar fan! ^___^

probably…. 🙂
And now the special lead-lined helmets…

That’s a cheery little basement of a nuclear reactor or particle accelerator.

Well played indeed!
So… I was looking at your Kickstarter campaign… Over 200% funded, with 40 days to go…
Are you planning some extra give away if you reach say 500% funding? like maybe a flip book of Tip doing the Hula?
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/250007708/skin-horse-volume-4?play=1&ref=users
Hmm…what kind of bonus would people be into?
The flip book isn’t a bad idea.
Since it wouldn’t require additional manufacture or printing – I like the idea of more prose.

Heart squirrel totally sounds like Bubbles from Powerpuff Girls to me when I read its dialogue.
Dude/Dudette, I thought the same thing!
It’s always good when Tara Strong gets work, even if its in individual brains.
Does that mean our brains owe her residuals?
The Cherenkov radiation actually has nothing to do with the plot – it’s just Jeff’s cunning plan to force Shaenon to draw Sweetheart in an “adorable” outfit.
I don’t think so,Dogs don’t need clothing to look adorable.
Sadly, this is 100% true.
Better do as you are told, Sweetheart or Heart Squirrel will use its mind controlling Care Squirrel powers on you and actually make you happy to be there. The horror.
Sweetheart is having a bad enough day. Threatening her with forced cheeriness by a squirrel of all creatures? That’s just cruelty to dogs.

You know they’ve done that in real life. So. It’s less mad sciencey than you think. Slowing the speed of light down, that is.
Um, light travelling slower is why it bends when it enters/leaves water…or air…or anything other than a vacuum.
I know, but it seems like it SHOULD be mad science.
