Nick has just realized that whoever has been messaging him isn’t a person, but rather an AI. We all figured out that the “Spirit of Whimsey Corp” was being directed by an AI… Nick hadn’t. Until now….
well, from memory the wasn’t it (only) the controls/override that are Dr.Lee’s?
Considering that part of Virginia’s ‘talent’ lies in the understanding and repurposing the ‘MadTech’ of others, how impossible is it that Anasigma ‘obtained’ the ‘Violet Bee’ drone and re-fit it with Dr Lee’s controls (and secret override).
Which leaves the question: Who originally built the drone?
Could it have been Dr Collodi?
Was she built to be Dr Collodi’s daughter?
Did Anasigma remove the original controls, but unknowingly leave the original inhabitant inside but with no way to communicate? (the theory being, with all the connections to who knows what, Nick has allowed that original inhabitant to communicate with him.)
and, most disturbingly, it’s been months since Anasigma has been mentioned in the strip, and much much longer since I have posted anything about them …. how the *MUKLUK* is it that I remembered how to spell Anasigma when I can barely remember to spell my own name?!?

I believe Dr Lee commented that the controls were hers, yes. However, considering that outside of the controls all that would he left would be the shell and the mechanics to move it, I don’t see the room left for an AI to be hiding. Further, when the AI was talking to Nick earlier, we see its communications on the TV screens in the van. Finally, Dr Lee did go over the drone a few times to make sure there was nothing left that would be a surprise to whoever piloted it.
I’d archive crawl to find the supporting strips, but this site loads way too slowly for me….
Funnily enough, the possibility of opening Violet up has come up before (Ginny didn’t as “robots are cute”) – as has Violet’s nose jack (incidentally, Nick was apparently installed via leads to Violet’s ears).
I see this ending with Nick turning over the Violet Bee drone so it can house the Spirit of Whimsy Corp. Because he’s a watercoloring hero. Then maybe, if he gets what he deserves, Ginny will build him a boybot to perambulate in. (I think that’s what the kids are calling it these days.) That would be a happy ending, except that no one will ever rock that droid the way Nick does.
Nick’s in love with the woman who, as she put it, “schlorped out his brains” and stuck them in a helicopter. So the “weird” train left this particular station long ago.
Two thoughts:
I) every English word can be made into a credible expletive.
II) sometimes it’s hard to decide if Eddurd is writing lyrics based on the comic or the comic is drawn on Eddurd’s lyrics o_o
I am just a scavenger, gleaning the crumbs from Shaenon amd Jeff’s banquet. Someday I hope to sit at the grown-up’s table … for now, I’ll sit in the corner with the other kids.

I think Nick had already figured out Collodi was an AI, but an AI still exists somewhere, and someone has to be planting hidden messages in the WhimsyCorp datastream, right? Even if that person is a disembodied intelligence existing on the servers, you should still be able to track down where they are, right?
No. No-one’s doing that. The messages aren’t being planted, they’re generated “naturally” as an emergent phenomenon of WhimsyCorp itself. That’s Collodi’s daughter.
It’s worse. Collodi’s daughter is somewhere in the Little House itself, some sort of baseline operating system for the robots and all the tech within. “She’s” been yelling for help using all the other systems that WhimsyCorp has available.
Is there someplace that collects the names in the title bar? (Ie the ‘in-case’ from yesterday). I’m assuming that they make some sense strung together.
Nick: “It’s Ciley Myrus! Ciley is Collodi’s daughter! She’s been a part of Whimsy all along! She’s a [tweaker], I know it! (Man I hate this vocoder software.)”
Okay, so way back in “I Can Fly,” Goldbug, an entity with some kind of easy access to/control of the lockout Anasigma had keeping Nick in VR, freed him against his own wishes. And then at the end of the storyline, Gavotte spoke with Goldbug and implied that this was ultimately done for Goldbug’s own benefit.
Now it’s evident that somebody or something associated with Collodi and Whimsy is an AI or computer-accessible gestalt entity, and it has gotten Nick to spearhead the saving of Collodi’s creations…hmm.
Goldbug was established later to being the one who was piloting the Violet Bee drone (in Railway Children) by Nick. Later, at the end of the arc, Dr Lee, while on the phone with Mr Green – the second in command of Anisigma – tells him that the next time he wants to tag along on a mission that he should come in person. Thus establishing that Goldbug is Mr Green.
Well, no, I take that back… beefy is in the other font. The bold made it seem like it wasn’t to me…. Oh well… I’m pretty sure there was one other spot, though, where Nick did self censor… just don’t remember where.
Once again, I find myself pining for “Skin Horse: The Movie/Animated Series” just to watch the full glory of Nick’s arm-flailing.
It would also be fun to hear some congas playing the “whopata whopata” running away sound effect for this part.

I _was_ going to mention the return of the nose-jack, a staple of Shaenon’s.
It makes perfect sense. The nerves in the nose do run directly from the brain; it’s the closest we get to easy direct contact from the outside.
