Hmm, images (specifically those from /wp-content and /wp-images if your resident webdev type’s reading) seem to be missing right now. 🙁

The Shadow Government has finally cracked that whole invisibility thing.

        Should be mostly better now!

I’m not seeing any problem – except that all this is coming from the future! What time zone does this site use, anyway? Clearly not West Coast time.

Ok, I see – it’s showing my comment as being posted 3 hours from now, it’s Eastern Time.

It was temporary. I noticed it to at about 10:30 PDT. A place holder icon for today’s comic and no image for previous comics. So… I went to bed. This morning all is fine.

Ok, testing one last thing before going to bed. Sorry for the occasional weirdness tonight.

Meant to ask about that…the site wouldn’t come up yesterday evening. Oh, well, the comments from yesterday are still there, unlike other glitches. (Had some funny thing to reply to something yesterday, but this morning I can’t remember it, so how funny could it have been?)

Not long ago, Sweetheart admitted to eating her creator. I know he was Canadian, but he was still human…wasn’t he?

By the time you eat then they’re always dead

By the time you FINISH eating them.

I really have to wonder what HT’s *real* long-term goals are. He has to know that openly trying to legalize anthropophagy is not even slightly in his personal best interests.

Do we get to shoot back? Tool use is instinctive for humans, so guns should be ‘fair’. In the words of Lynyrd Skynyrd, “Handguns are made for killin'”.

I doubt you’ll have much luck killing a tiger with a handgun. *Maybe* a Desert Eagle.

S&W 500, 454 Casull and several other handguns will do the trick.

Interesting question, there: a regular tiger isn’t sentient, so it can’t really contemplate all the Awful Things that can result from being shot. Particularly the long-term effects of, say, a gut wound in a world where veterinarians familiar with its species aren’t exactly common. But HT will KNOW what a .50 caliber bullet will do to him. Might make him thoughtful.

There was a Kipling story that touched on this, by the way. Apparently in Victorian-era India elephants wouldn’t carry artillery all the way to the front; they had to get bullocks to cart it the rest of the way. When asked (this was a fantasy story) why an elephant explained forthrightly because he could contemplate what would happen if he got hit with an artillery shell.

Sentient is probably not the attribute you meant. Are you suggesting tigers don’t feel hunger, pain, or isolation?

That’s a great story! I remember it well, it’s in one of the Jungle Book collections – all of the animals in use in the British Indian Army were talking about their wartime jobs and bragging about how important they were, except the elephant who was all “Nope, I’m not going anywhere near an actual battle!” (and was also easily intimidated by the little yappy dog.) Kipling can be so awesome.

There’s actually a very good reason for elephants to be scared of really tiny things: the tiny things- tarantulas, scorpions, etc.- tend to be the most dangerous things around, and megafauna are too big to see them.

A real elephant would probably have a similar reaction to a noisy toy breed dog if it wasn’t already familiar.

Cannibalism as part of the democratic process? I know, I know, H.T. and most of his crew aren’t human, but if they want to get it passed, it will have to be across the board. Which might cause problems with campaigning. (Insert your own political party joke here.)

It’s not cannibalism if it’s a different species. I suspect HT might have second thoughts if he knew some humans think predator meat is a delicacy.

I suspect he’d have third, fourth, and fifth thoughts if he knew just how much of the Orient thinks tiger pieces parts are aphrodisiacs.

–Dave, similar to elephants, who are being poached for the tusks, not the meat

Have you looked at the republicans fighting for nomination? they’re already trying to devour eachother. Makes Kilkany cats look like they are nuzling.

I could see support for eating people on death row as a starter for legal eating of people. They could even spin it as a better and more humane method than injection or firing squads.

I first read that as “injection OF firing squads”.

Get Hollywood on the line. I’ve got a pitch for a Fantastic Voyage sequel.
