ME: “*I* want a hug, Dr. Lee!!”
DR. LEE: (quickly turns away) “Now, then– about those trees…”

Ginny would be getting all the hugs right now if not for that pesky 4th wall.

Any relation to Charlie Brown’s kite-eating tree?

They’ve already dealt with an intelligent Swamp, twice, why so surprised about an intelligent Pine Barrens?

Uhh… didn’t she ultimately out mojo both Tip and Artie back when? Pretty sure she has mojo and knows it.

    tune: “Legs,” ZZ Top, 1983

    She needs hugs!
    She wants to hug Alfie
    But he just bugs
    ‘Cause hugs make him ralphy
    She needs hugs!
    A blouseful of cobras
    Makes her jugs
    Feel warmy with no bras
    Eyes all teary
    Hitty’s leery
    Please give Ginny hugs!

I know other people have said this, but I could only see two of 11 comments until I posted my own, then I could see them all. Has anyone found a fix? I don’t want to have to post a pointless comment every day just to read people wittier than myself.

This problem is super elusive and difficult to reproduce, which is making diagnosis difficult. I had it for one day but after a post it hasn’t shown up since, which is frustrating if other people continue to have it. You aren’t by any chance using a lot of different devices? I mean, if it gets fixed on one does it stay fixed?

I also only had the problem for one day. I only use one device, so it’s unlikely to have been device-related for me.

Haven’t had the problem on my laptop or desktop with Windows 10, but this morning it did come up on my android tablet. I think it said there were like 17 comments, but when I clicked on comments, only the first two showed up.

At risk of displaying my biases, I lay the blame on PHP. For those who care, the Blog post linked to has all the gruesome details, but this one has the graphic that is worth a thousand words.

I’m having the problem persistently on my SurfaceBook. I don’t read Skin Horse on any other device.

The issue with the RSS link is proper threading of replies. Everything in the list is just chronological.

The Devil is in the details. Where “detail”=”tree”.

That’s kind of unnerving. Also, so far both of the times puppydog eyes have been seen they’ve been used against those you’d expect would use them themselves.

Commenting to see if it still re-activates the other comments. Opera doesn’t seem to like the RSS, comes up in HTML.

To be fair, Ginny did miss the first encounter. That said, it does seem rather old hat. So old hat, in fact, that I suspect she’s wrong. Why would Sweetdaddy call a bunch of trees a “sick jive-turky”? And what did Killotron #3 see?

    Can it be the trees
    That makes us sneeze
    With dread and unfettered gloom?
Oh, yes, it could be the trees,
    They mean our doom.

    Can it be the thing
    To bite and sting
    And our Sweetdaddy consume?
It has to be just the thing
    To cause our doom.

    Our fear was a presser
    That planted a seed
    Of terrible power
    The power of full chill-ment.

    Could it be a dream
    That makes that scream
That echoes all through the room?
We know it isn’t a dream,
    It’s just our doom.

Ya gotta start just after midnight [most nights] to be at the top. Most days at that hour I’m either asleep or at work.

Besides, I didn’t have time to work on it till five in the afternoon.

[Midnight Eastern time, that is. Reports are that Shaenon lives somewhere in Pacific time; I don’t know where Jeffrey or any of the others involved hang out…)

Quite apparently, the cobras are not immune to their own venom, and are as disconcerted by puppy-dog eyes as the rest of us. If Dr. Lee keeps this up for more than 3 minutes, she will be wrapped in hugging snakes like a mummy.
