That’s OK, Nick. I think Panoptica still got the message. ^o^

And I’m sure that Ginny will let you allow you a reroll! ^_~

I think the technical term is “crust”.

Maybe it’s one of those Oreo cookie shells! I use ’em when I make Chocolate Mousse Pie.

I think that’s the horns of one of the Jersey Devils.

Whoa, time jump. Did Nick *land* on autopilot?

I assure you, the autopilot is unharmed

He was in the air when Panoptica started the conversation and he was on the ground at the end of it. Makes you wonder who was flying and talking to Dr. Lee in the meantime.

Not shown is the thrilling scene where Nick demands a moment to land before continuing to talk to Panoptica. Put it in the McCloudian magic gutters.

Helicopters are really hard to crash thanks to a thing called autorotation. Of course, that would still require him to miss the trees, but other than that this is entirely feasible.

Ospreys, OTOH, are REALLY EASY to crash. Unfortunately.

Oh how wrong you are. Autorotation is one of the hardest maneuvers for a helicopter pilot. First you either need enough velocity or enough height to maintain rotor speed. If you hover at the time of engine failure, you have to trade height into velocity to maintain rotor speed. And then you have to hit the right timing to decelerate for landing. If you’re too late then you have too much velocity for a safe landing, If you’re too early you lose rotor speed and lift and plummet to the ground like a stone. I also suspect that autorotation with an osprey is even harder to do.

I’ve worked w/ ex army who got tricked into being passengers for autorotation practice. Purportedly terrifying.

You may be thinking of autogyros. The rotors in those are unpowered (except for a few which can spin up before takeoff). Cut the engine for the prop and they drop at a fairly easy rate with no need for input. Tough you would still need some piloting for the actual landing.

And, he wasn’t even in vertical helicopter mode when he was yanked.

Although Ospreys have rotors, they’re not big enough to support the craft through autorotation. It was one of the trade-offs they made, IIRC in order to allow the craft to fold up and stow away on transports.

Poor Nick. It’s all in the timing.

Which is better: getting in the last word, or letting the other guy embarrass himself with it?

Y’know, yesterday, Panoptica told Nick he could choose where to go from there. He should hold her to that, and choose to go back to Skin Horse like he’s talked about…

Looks like we won’t get to enjoy Nick’s (no doubt highly censored) version of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19uxfmXRx80 any time soon… too bad!

Never trust anyone who says you “need” them, and then try to bar you from leaving them.

Unless they’re a medical doctor providing life support. Or a sherpa guiding you up a mountain.

Actually maybe just don’t trust jerks.
