Sorry, had to re-upload the comic.

Glad I didn’t post my song parody yet. (I haven’t written it yet but I’m glad I didn’t post it.)

Is he talking to Tip or the plant?

I think he’s talking to the plant. Note the tendril behind him that is starting to encroach. Also, Plant Pierson is looking behind him, and appears to making some “elbow room.”

    That checks out.

Heeeeey, I’m late to the party here. Everybody has already slunk off except for that one bloke who’s throwing up behind the sofa. (That idiom sort of ran away on me)

Anyway, Plant Pierson – I demand that you be made from Tomato plants. For reasons.

Apparently the collective needs to work out some kinks in the assimilation – it seems resistance is not, in fact, futile.

Resistance might not work, but pure spite always pulls through.

Can we keep him? He seems like he’d be a good addition to Rebel Skin Horse, and a good outcome of parts of the hive mind splitting off. XD

Admittedly, it would make some stories to have a plant-Thing on the team, but I’d be worried with even a copy of Pierson onboard Annex One with Tigerlily’s leftovers and absent even A-Sig’s lax oversight. A wandering deathtrap gives even hardened souls pause.

If the Biomass is the child of the Cypress, then does that mean Plant Peirson is the child of the Biomass? If so, I guess this is his rebellious teenager phase.

I’m confused. When was it established that Peirson was a plant and that Tip knew about it?

I don’t know if it was ESTABLISHED, but it was implied-to-the-point-of-confirmation-being-almost-redundant when they established that the sweaters were supposed to be plant-duplicate indicators.

The Sweater Ninja was surreptitiously outfitting pod people with sweaters indicating as much.

I should stop reading theories in the comments, because I could have sworn that was still ambiguous, and I suspect this is because people kept saying “But what if the sweaters are actually…”

      • soft
        February 10, 2020, 7:57 pm | # | Reply

But sweater ninja said he didn’t know who the plant people were, so his putting ones on plant people was chance. As was shown when someone NOT wearing a sweater changed.

Further, when the Cypress went to seed earlier and it killed the one plant poster, it had a normal hay fever affect on Peirson.

I don’t remember Sweater Ninja ever saying that. All he ever said to Tip before he was killed was that Tip was the only one he was certain was not a pod person. He never said he didn’t know for certain that the people he was marking weren’t pod people.

Forgive the pun, but Pod Peirson is a plant. If he has Peirson’s memories, that includes remembering that he’s supposed to be allergic to whatever those spores were. In order to keep up appearances, it’s entirely reasonable that he would fake a sneeze.

I meant plant as in “disguised infiltrator,” not plant as in “botanical lifeform.”

            February 11, 2020, 9:12 am | #

If he’s pointing to Tip’s collar as the only way that he knows Tip isn’t a plant person and saying that anyone on the team could have been replaced, then that’s essentially like saying “I don’t know who for sure”. And again, there was one person he didn’t put the sweater on that was a plant person.

Obviously I get and see that Peirson is (his finger is a vine in the second panel), but the sweaters as introduced were not a 100% for certain, even to Tip, so his immediate “I thought you were a plant” seems out of place. That is what I’m questioning. Up until this point, there was nothing that proved to Tip that the sweaters were a definitive.

And I’m not questioning Peirson “faking” hey fever… I’m questioning why it didn’t kill him like it did the other one right next to him.

I’d forgotten about him, though he didn’t transform until after the Sweater Ninja was killed. It’s possible the Sweater Ninja hadn’t had a chance to mark him yet or hadn’t confirmed that he was changed out before his death.

In yesterday’s comic, Peirson said “Plant pun intended.” It was subtle, but I guess that was supposed to be confirmation that he is indeed a plant.

Not at all how I took that considering everything they had been through.

Not how I took it either, but I read back through the whole chapter again, and I couldn’t find anything else that would confirm him as a plant.

Hatred, I hate all of this forest.
    I retain all the memory
Of the man you have known.
With this hatred, the friendly leaves collect at my back,
And our acts have all been blown.

Memories, all right here in the sunlight,
I can bring up his skill-set.
    He was wonderful then.
I remember he used what intelligence was.
    Make that memory bright again.

    Every flower seems to be
    Some euphemistic swarming.
    H. T. might utter, and the rest might splutter.
    And then we are brainstorming.

    Uptight,
I must work on the collar,
I must get that thing off you,
Or your head will blow off.
    If it stays there,
You could just be a memory, too.
So hold still and don’t cough.

    Sixteen hours of missing time,
The stale bad smell of coffee.
Eris cries, the other guy is crazy,
Keep crying “Get this off me!”

    Touchy!
You cannot go and leave me,
    All alone with my memory
    Of that other guy’s fun.
If I’m touchy, you’ll see what intelligence is.
    Look, your rescue has begun.
