Actually, it should be fairly easy to get that many coat hangers. Throw two into a closet, wait ten minutes, harvest the three dozen tangled hangers that come out. Choose two to throw back in, repeat until you have sufficient materials for the portal device.

Considering we used wire coat hangers as TV antennas and there are papers on transmitting ethernet packets across barbed wire, I see no problems with using an egg beater as part of a cyborg detector.
Now _there’s_ a bit of mad science. It tracks cyborgs (somehow distinguishing them from robots, androids, humans with pacemakers, etc), can be set to track a _specific_ cyborg (and don’t ask me what information it needs or how you input it), it apparently operates over immense distances (Dr. Jones is apparently not worried that the base at which Nick is held might be in, say, Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico), and, as jrwences points out, it looks like it was originally an egg-beater.
The true Mad Genius, given some springs or gears or vacuum tubes or old Nintendo parts (depending on their favored theme), is a goddamn reality warper.
