I know what Tip’s doing in there!
    He’s testing out a new moisturizer…

Considering Dr Lee made UNITY, I’d expect her to know Helen no matter what. Especially since both Nick and UNITY use machines as well as human parts, which seems like something Dave and Helen would have worked on. I mean, Artie is clearly right, but his logic is flimsy at best.

It’s a fairly typical Sherlock Holmes style deduction, and as with Holmes, it takes about three seconds to come up with alternative explanations.

I’ve always chosen to believe that this is because the Great Detective never bothered detailing all the possibilities he ruled out and exactly why he did so, and not that he was just a lucky guesser.

He could simply have thrown it out there, trusting that if Dr. Lee did know about it, her reaction would be a giant, bolded “WHAT?”

She’s not so great at this subterfuge stuff.

I’m not sure if either Artie or Dr. Lee actually know from whomUNITY’s brains were cloned.

My brother is like this! He takes more time getting ready than most – actually all – girls I know!

Helen must have developed a countercure by now. Heck, she probably has an *amplifier*.

Yes, you must. You will enjoy it.

It’s not that you “have to”, like being forced to eat your vegetables. It’s that you “get to”, and that’s a good thing.

No, no, I’m fairly sure that it’s a ‘have to’. Because even if Voyager didn’t want to… one way or another, we would make it happen.

Helen may have a countercure, but I’m betting Anasigma also has one as well as the amplifier. They’ll spread the cure into the general populace to prevent new madboyz from forming “in the wild”, and keep the amplifier for their own R&D department so they can stay on the bleeding edge. All part of the corporate strategy to keep themselves on top, and everyone else firmly on bottom.

Well, in my experience, it takes a while to put on make up, and more time to re-do it…

For that matter, she probably has something that can artificially cause the disorder.

Eergh, the reply bug hits me for the first time. That was supposed to be in response to Evil Midnight Lurker.

Well, Nick did describe Artie as a bimorphic chimera named Narbon, so basic familiarity with the madscience community would seem to be reason enough.

This arc must be somewhere on the timeline before Helen B. perfects the cure that Rosalind mentioned.

Considering the multiverse tomfoolery we’ve seen in earlier storylines, they might be on a completely different timeline at this point. Hell, there’s no guarantee that the stuff from Narbonic happened 100% the same way; it could just be a very similar universe.

I would say the reverse; for Ginny to be reverse engineering the cure, it must be after it was developed. Since Helen made it sound like she would be making the cure available to anyone who wanted it, one can only assume that Anasigma want it to use on those who may not want to be normal.

(TUNE: “How Can I Be Sure”, The Young Rascals)

    Have you found the Cure?
Let me ask, while Tip’s in there changing …
    Have you found the Cure,
    So folks won’t go Mad?

     Whenever they …
Whenever they their tragic fate fulfill,
     There comes a day
When they will snap and go bonkersville!

      Is it clear now,
      When you reverse-engineer, how
      Madness potential can break through?
Ginny, how long will it take you
To find how a mind we can mend?

    Have you found the Cure?
That can stop the mad folks from changing?
    Have you found the Cure,
    Or will you go Mad?

“I can think of one reason someone with those credentials would know my creator’s name”

Artie must be distracted, I can think of half a dozen.

Depends on how much the “reverse the work of mad geniuses” bit is relevant. I’d expect it to be pretty restrictive. Still a bit of a leap, though.

Combine “reverse-engineer mad science” with “neuroscientist” and “Artie” and the first thing that springs to my mind is working out how to give a gerbil an IQ of 250. 😉

Artie is extremely intelligent, but he also tends to be narrow focused.

I get the impression that Dr. Lee is using the cure. If so it seems to keep her in the superposition state of being Mad and not Mad at the same time. A fix to the original side effect.

The webcomic Unshelved [www.unshelved.com] had a disturbingly relevant strip today, February 6th. It’s a flashback to how some of the main characters got hired. The reference librarian responded to a question about her interests by listing a string of Dewey Decimal numbers.
For those who don’t speak Dewey, her response was “Cloning,” “Gerbils” and “Intellectual Freedom”.

    xiombrag,

Using alternate universe theories to cover up continuity issues or plot holes is the height of laziness. I don’t think that is what is going on. I believe Jeff would eat his own hat before he’d go there.

Why do they need the cure? Maybe I’ve spent too long re-reading early ‘Girl Genius’ comics, but genocide seems like the better option.

My guess is they want something that won’t affect normal humans. Anasigma has made it pretty clear that they want a new war between humans and non-humans, and they’re on the side of the humans.
