Wait, she’s Goldbug? Other commenters noted the Violet Bee/Gold Bug thing before, but I totally cannot wrap my head around this.

Okay, starting to wrap. If she’s a machine, someone built her. Who, and why?

Wrapping more. Is she Oz? If so, who’s behind the curtain?

It’ll make more sense by the end of 2019.

    Wait, Nick wore glasses?

It’s from the Wizard of Oz reference set: http://skin-horse.com/2008/mesh-gloves-better/

Not sure if joking but it’s a reference to when Nick was forcibly made aware of the fact that he was, at that point and time, a brain in a jar in a helicopter.

      Now this I wasn’t expecting.

She was not only responsible for making Nick aware of his situation, but she also got Skin Horse involved, as was revealed right at the end of the storyline:

Which really makes me wonder what her angle is in all of this.

Just had great fun re-reading the entire I Can Fly arc…
I wonder if Dr. Lee ever got around to revealing Nick’s override code to Unity…

I think that’s what Unity used to make Nick land in the blizzard up in Alaska. Remember he said it was too dangerous, so she started singing: “Miss Lucy had a baby, She named him Tiny Tim-” and Nick immediately crash-landed.

This is the name of the file, but I’m not sure how to attach it here: 2009-06-09-evidence-of-his

And this is the web address from that comic: http://skin-horse.com/2009/evidence-of-his/

Allow me to disagree. That was more likely just a standard “there are worse things than death, hear THIS” joke.
Also, Dr. Lee pretty much confirmed that
            a) Nick’s security phrase would be some sort of fruit, and
            b) it would be an irreversible change.

I thought Unity was just really bad at singing.

Okay, I totally did NOT see that coming. Violet Bee as Goldbug?

But if she’s not human, it would also explain why Tip didn’t, well, you know. Wrong pheremones, or something.

Yeah.. Tip’s superpower works on animals of his current species, so until he gets turned into an android..

(TUNE: “Goldfinger”, John Barry, Leslie Bricusse, Anthony Newley)

    She’s Goldbug!
    (dun DUUN dun!)
She’s the one … who showed what a nasty trick
    They pulled on Nick!

    We ask, “Please, Goldbug!
    (dun DUUN dun!)
Tell us why … you crashed the Homonculus!
    Now Nick can’t cuss!”

Her humanity, Nick has disproved …
But his spectacles she had removed!
From this little talk, such consternation!
      What a shock-ing re-ve-la-tion!

    She’s Goldbug!
    (dun DUUN dun!)
She’s the one … who’s working for Mister Green …
    She’s a machine!
     So squeaky and clean!
      But she’s mean …
       Cold and mean …
        A ma-chine!

Wait, so she sees that he has some sensitive information about her, so she… gives him more sensitive information? Some that can get her in trouble with Dr. Lee, who’s only a couple of feet away?

    • Antonio
      July 21, 2012, 1:12 pm | # | Reply

You know, for some reason I doubt Dr. Lee would give Ms. Goldbug trouble about that.
      c.f. http://skin-horse.com/2009/further-information/

Really, if you check, she spent most of that arc trying to make SURE that Skinhorse interfered.

That’s not the point. Dr. Lee was pissed about someone springing Nick out of his VR before his “metamorphosis” was complete, not about Skin Horse trying to save him once everything went wrong.

Well, it makes a lot more sense now why she was the representative for the Machine Union. Or was she just the mediator in that dispute? I can’t remember and don’t have time this morning for an archive crawl.

Is there any reason why Violet Bee couldn’t also be GODOT? After all, she is a super intelligent AI, she is hiding her identity, and (unless she was under orders from Mr. Green) her acting to “remove Nick’s spectacles” would mean she has gone rogue.

    • Forzin
      July 22, 2012, 12:53 am | # | Reply

I believe there is a fairly good chance that GODOT will not show up at all, if only to reference Beckett. Of course, there is an equally good chance that he/she/it will show up if only to go ‘AHA! You all thought it wasn’t going to arrive!’

I (still) don’t trust Violet, but this is huge, makes sense, and took me entirely by surprise. Well played, Wells. Well played.

I wonder if she’s somehow also Gavotte’s “daughter”. that was my fleeting thought on who Gold Bug was and also Violet Bee was (at different times in the story–I never made the connection between the two to assume that Violet Bee and Gold Bug were the same person/thing.)

I actually read that Stanley did film the fotagoe that we all know from the lunar landing because the US Government was afraid that they would not be able to get any fotagoe successfully back. Think of how poor the film technology was in those days. And imagine if they returned and the fotagoe was all unwatchable. So they went to the king to have fotagoe that they could use and they did in fact use a majority of . They had a whole world watching.VA:F [1.9.13_1145]please wait…VA:F [1.9.13_1145](from 0 votes)
