Any number of ways? If you left it up to me, I’d use something similar to Hepburn romanization for Japanese.
It’s more than possible that the main reason why it seems weird to me is because English is not my first language and so the pronunciation used for non-English-standard sounds look weird (if you start a word on “ch” I’m gonna expect it to sound like “children”, not “hag” with an extra hard “h”), but I think the non-standardization is probably just as off-putting.
As a Spanish-speaking jew, I was taught what to me was a much more standardized and natural looking phonetic transcription, so I do know the one used above is not the only one, at least.
And just as I hit the post comment key it occurred to me that we hadn’t seen what happened to the little TV. If the crate is a Faraday Cage then Monstro may have hit Nick with every erg of EMP he had and no one would have noticed it.
You could have enough energy to detonate a stick of dynamite, and still not have enough to turn a flashlight on for more than a second. An EMP with that kind of power wouldn’t even disrupt your cell phone.
Well, that’s what Mad Science is for. Just pointing out that wind-up tech and electrickery are not particularly incompatible. As for actual EMPs, out here in the real world not much short of a nuke can make one worth bothering with – Ocean’s eleven and Breaking Bad don’t count as “reality”.
Though, a Faraday cage is not a perfect electromagnetic shield, and might not absorb 100% of a high-frequency EMP. More importantly, it doesn’t work exactly the same in both directions; in order for a Faraday cage to reliably stop signals coming from inside from going outside, it should be grounded, and I’m not sure that crate is.
Am I the only one that thinks Baron arranged the fights so Nick wouldn’t have his meatbody squashed like a grape? We saw physically far more powerful robots fighting earlier.
I would agree it’s a possibility based on the matches so far, but it doesn’t quite jibe with the Baron’s demonstrated character – unless he’s heavily bet on Nick to win.
It’s weird to remember Baron is actually pretty crafty. He’d have to be to survive Whimsy….so yeah, if Nick was still a helicopter he probably would’ve gone against different opponents. For all we know you’re dead right and Baron at least *tried* to fix the game so Nick could win.
Which goes well with the theory that the Baron needs Nick to go in and talk to Aimee, because she has shut the Baron out. Hopefully she hasn’t put up a firewall shutting everyone out. Although, if she has, it would be just like the Baron to not mention it.
Well, Nick did actually have two washing machines (or perhaps it was a washer and dryer, not really sure) stacked on top of him at the same time, which would have crushed the ribcage of most ordinary humans, or, to paraphrase adam, squashed a meatbody like a grape. And yet, Nick survived mostly unscathed. (We have no evidence he had any broken bones whatsoever.). So I would say that there is no evidence that the Baron was actually “taking it easy” on Nick, so to speak.
Basically, Nicks’s survival of that match, and apparent lack of significant injury afterward, can only be attributed to either routine cartoon physics, or his new body being the product of mad science.
Perhaps the high power energy build up is an EMP to wipe out all those ::pesky:: sentient robots. And here is that dang Skin Horse, and a new wind up friend, going to have to save the day.
Maybe he really is one of Tigerlily’s robots gone rogue. He’s trying to be Scottish – because let’s face it, being Scottish is awesome – but he doesn’t know how.
Chag Sameach Nick!!! <3
I’ll never get used to the weird things English speakers do with Hebrew words.
To be fair, we English speakers do that with every language.
And Japan has cheerfully taken all necessary ‘revenge’ on that account.
And by ‘revenge’ can I assume you mean that Japan does everything possible to capitalize on the rampant misuse of the Japanese language?
…and here I thought it was Scottish and that maybe Nick was one of the lost clan.
How else would you transliterate it?
Any number of ways? If you left it up to me, I’d use something similar to Hepburn romanization for Japanese.

I keep hearing Monsto’s voice as Craig Ferguson….
You did better than me. I keep hearing Fat Bastard.
I keep reading him as having no Scottish accent whatsoever for some reason
In my mind, Money to has an Edinburgh accent on helium.
Monstro, not Monday. Stupid autocorrect.
“Stupid autocorrect”… Isn’t that redundant?
Most assuredly. Hence my disabling of it.
I’ve heard so many Scottish accents over the years. I keep settling on Alan Young. First from “The Time Machine,” then as Scrooge McDuck.
I was thinking Gilbert Gottfried
I keep hearing the demoman from tf2 when he speaks
Oh yeah. Mr. Scott from “Star Trek.”
Billy Connolly.
For some reason I can see Monstro taking a pugnacious shine to Unity (like the snakes did to Bubbles)…
Nick shouldn’t worry so much. He was an unknown thing once.
And you think he was not potentially harmful. What exactly do you think an attack helicopter is for?
Yeah, if he hadn’t been a pacifist this would be a completely different story.
Is Monstro a clockwork robot? Might it be one of Tigerlily’s creations?
“Possible” exception. Nick’s keeping his wits about him, it seems.
I keep thinking Monstro’s got a powerful EMP or something, which would make him terrifying to the other machine competitors, but less so to meatNick
That was my thought, and i held it for a while.
Then I realized that mere logic would avail me not.
And just as I hit the post comment key it occurred to me that we hadn’t seen what happened to the little TV. If the crate is a Faraday Cage then Monstro may have hit Nick with every erg of EMP he had and no one would have noticed it.
Monstro’s a windup. Probably doesn’t have any EMP. Probably also safe from EMP, too.
Two words: Mad Science.
Oy, laddie, remember them ancient dyno-mite T-handle detonators…? Those be wind-up too, with still enough zing to make kaboom sticks go up…

It does, after all, have a fairly large surface area in constant contact with the ground.

Again, he and Nick are friends! Close friends. Very close friends. Don’t expect any harm to Nick to deliberately come from the Baron.
Nor forget that Aimee is female Nick.
Nor yet forget that Nick is therefore the one most likely to talk Aimee out of sulking when nobody else can.
You can be sure the Baron hasn’t. ^_^

Yeah, I had to look up “puggled,” too. At least that came right to the top. Monstro’s at the end of his resources, he’s exhausted.
I thought he was trying to say “puzzled” with his mouth full.
Also…now that Nick is Champion of the Tourney, shouldn’t it be on to the “I’mo talk with Aimee” portion of the awards ceremony?
He hasn’t actually won just yet
I live in Scotland, and no-one I’ve ever met has talked like that.
Maybe he really is one of Tigerlily’s robots gone rogue. He’s trying to be Scottish – because let’s face it, being Scottish is awesome – but he doesn’t know how.
A reasonable theory.
Obviously, the actual final boss is the hotplate.
