I’m not reading these comments an-haemo. They’re just a vessel for stupidity.

Since her blood essentially _is_ her, it had better be on the ball…

    U.N.I.T.Y.’s got it.
And that’s why The Singularity isn’t going to be as catastrophic as people think. As Douglas Hofstadter said, the new AI will RUN on computers, but it won’t UNDERSTAND computers any more than we understand brains. Or, in U.N.I.T.Y.’s case, blood.

I don’t think The Singularity usually refers to the possibility of an emergent AI.

The technological singularity does, in fact, refer to the idea that an AI can create another, smarter AI, and so on until superintelligence is achieved or beyond. Other types of singularities (gravitational, mathematical, etc.) refer to different things.

Singularity also often refers to a ‘hive consciousness’ type of effect.

Asimov’s writings touch on it twice that I can recall both times never referring to singularity, but that description is used by others referring to his work: Childhood’s End, and more broadly with Hari Seldon’s psychohistory in he Foundation series.

Sorry to nitpick, but Childhood’s End was Clarke, not Asimov.

Also, _Childhood’s End_ and Asimov’s Foundation series were written decades before the use of the word Singularity to refer to faster and faster computer development generating a technological asymptote.

Fair nit – I had both hit on the same google search for “asimov novel with children evolving powers”.

I knew what I was trying to say (from my memories of reading the books), and didn’t fully read the link returns. I mainly googled it because I could not recall the title for “Childhood’s End”

It is common enough of a trope that GURPS has rules for what deus ex machina comes about from an emergent “strong AI” encounter. The current storyline is far lower-key than “Intelligence gets the cheat codes to the universe,” of your standard tech-singularity.

Not understanding is not the same as not harming. We humans have a longstanding tradition of harming our brains… what kind of damage would result of it doing something analogous to drinking alcohol?

Personally I think the singularity is already happening, and we are just the mitochondria for the Internet.

Electronic device detox was remarkably soothing my last vacation (cruise). Wasn’t pure detox though – the ship had satellite CNN and some networks.

Enforced detox from winter storms and hurricanes last two years were not as relaxing – in no small part because I still needed to worry about the weather – therefore frustrating.

Eh, it’s not the craziest thing I’ve seen in this comic. And by comic I mean storyline. And by storyline I mean week. And by week I mean Unity talking about the differences between her and Sweetheart’s blood.

(TUNE: “Let Your Love Flow”, The Bellamy Brothers)

    Now we’re eating, and we’re won-der-ing
How we’re beating … this whole WhimsyCorp thing!
Not completing … no success we bring
    To the table …
Zombie’s going, “Like your blood, it’s dumb!
It’s just flowing, don’t know where to or from!
As for knowing … what your lunch will become,
    It’s unable!”

But does your blood know … what the rest of you does?
So does your blood know? No it doesn’t, because
Normal blood flow … wasn’t made like mine was!
     Mine is super!
Because my blood thinks! Yeah, my blood’s on the ball!
And since my blood thinks, it’s a big know-it-all!
Normal blood stinks, it just flows at a crawl
     In a stupor!

Eddard is actually the combined consciousness of about four hundred English-language filkers across the globe, who project a gestalt entity created from the excess processing power that they, especially the sleeping ones, aren’t using in any given minute. Another Eddard, unknown to ours, lives in Tuscon, Arizona and writes new tunes for old lyrics.

I have computer access again! I missed getting daily updates, but now I got to read an entire week’s worth in one dose!
I’ve seen entirely too much of my own blood lately- I have what must be at least a hundred mosquito bites, and I scratch when not paying attention.

All these blood puns are making me positively sickle. I have way too much on my platelet to deal with inanity like this. At least it’s not bawdy; one might even say it’s anti-bawdy.
