Yes, but that’s not the same thing, and not the justificaton she gave for her actions.
These most recent few strips have felt weird, like the writing is oddly motivated. It doesn’t seem intentional – it doesn’t feel like the characters are displaying strange thoughts or behaviors and we’re supposed to take notice; it feels like the script itself maybe wasn’t thought through as much or as clearly as normal.
It seems like the intent is to highlight a certain direction of character growth, but for whatever reason, the way it’s happening feels… forced? Unrealistic? It’s hard to feel like Sweetheart is actually growing when the logic of her actual dialogue seems to undercut the growth she’s meant to be undergoing.
If it seems forced or stilted, I’d attribute that more to Sweetheart making a concerted effort than a failure of writing. She’s acting out of character because she’s nervous about the stability of her relationship and thinks she needs to show Unity that she can be more respectful of her. A natural course would be for it to taper off over time and either go back to what it was or be a smaller, permanent change.
But that’s what she’s saying, I think. She’s been acting like she’s still the boss, and everyone’s been going along with it, but now she’s learning to accept she isn’t, and especially isn’t in her relationship with Unity.
You might be too young for this, but on TV there were shows where they pranked people on the streets. Like put them on ridiculous situations and thus instilled the idea that when confronted by such a situations, you should look for hidden cameras because you’re on such a show. You can find such videos on youtube and TV stations still do it.
Who’s the next youtube star? You are! Yes you are!
She’s not a cat. Another reason for her to hate them.
You can’tsee it but her tail is definitely wagging
You are a very good dog, Sweetheart!
Unless this is a convenient excuse to get Unity out of the way while the possessed Sweetheart rampages through the night!
Well, that’s as a partner, but as a BOSS she actually does have the right…
She has the right, but no reason.
Yes, but that’s not the same thing, and not the justificaton she gave for her actions.

But maybe I’m reading too much into things…

What boss? They all went rogue, and Sweetheart has just the authority the others vest in her.
And since they still consider her the boss, that means she is still the boss, even it’s entirely by fiat and force of will.
But that’s what she’s saying, I think. She’s been acting like she’s still the boss, and everyone’s been going along with it, but now she’s learning to accept she isn’t, and especially isn’t in her relationship with Unity.
And force of teeth, as exemplified on the flight over here.
Why hide cameras? Isn’t this something you’d tape and take pictures right out in the open, like a wedding or a bar mitzvah?
It’s so out of character that Unity thinks they’re on Candid Camera or Prank’d or something.

Certainly I’m old enough to remember. “Smile, you’re on Candid Camera!”

Good dog sweetheart! Learning to trust your partner and establishing healthy boundaries is important!
