The comic is only half loaded for me.

Nevermind, it somehow finished when I was typing that commment.

I’m sure a lot of the characters walk around half loaded.

Has Papa Legba left the beach, or has he found a hat even more Cool?

It’s the next morning, so I think he’s gone home now and left Remy to deal with the hangover.

That sounds like par for the course when dealing with supernatural entities.

…well, just barely if Unity keeps the hat.

“Leaving the government hasn’t improved your average, has it?” Yeah, SHE’S a QUEEN. That comment gave me the upper-class rulership vibe.

Death may be the ‘great leveler’ but Zombies still have their social classes
    baked in, too.

I wonder how she became their ruler. I mean, Norton was an Emperor before he died, but who got double-tapped and made her queen?

“From the murky waters emerged a greasy green arm, holding a shining golden brain…”

Well, there have been some queens named Elena. Most notably, Queen Elena of Italy. So it’s possible that she really was a queen somewhere until she became undead.

The lack of performance difference can be explained by the fact that both Civil Service and a totally volunteer organization rely entirely on the competence of immediate supervisors and the enthusiasm of the troops, neither of which has changed in this case.

Well, Papa Legba has departed, after achieving absolutely nothing aside from consuming free coffee and issuing largely useless warnings. Or did he?

“When you do things right, people won’t be sure you’ve done anything at all.”

    Stop quoting Futurama, Papa.

Two things one of my bosses said about 25 years ago that have stuck with me ever since then.

“Do your job well, and no one will even notice you’re here.”

“It takes 100 ‘at-a-boy’s to make up for one ‘oh-shit’.”

I learned over my 3+ decades in IT is that if you can fix your “oh-shits” fast enough so that no one notices, then they don’t count.

They only count if you admit to doing them.

Which I only admitted to friends OUTSIDE of the places I did them in!

With that much coffee, I hope he had time to hit the toilet before turning his body back over to Remy.

Well, actually, Papa Legba did contribute something; Sweetheart just wasn’t sure yet exactly what he meant, and/or wasn’t ready to hear it, because, as is so often the case, info from higher powers just isn’t quite specific enough. http://skin-horse.com/comic/abhorred/. Also, Sweetheart was raised by a scientist, albeit a Mad one. She is not ready to deal with things she views as non-scientific.

Also, it’s important to be very specific with canines – there can be no room for misinterpretation or confusion. And yes, very intelligent canines can and will be deliberately obtuse if they “don’t want to know” what you really meant. If you have ever had a frighteningly intelligent dog, you will know what I mean.

But he was so unbelievably vague (perhaps because to him, it was so obvious, or perhaps just because he wanted to be a jerk), that you can scarcely call it a “contribution”.

Skin Horse didn’t solve the “mauler” mystery, though – Esteban caught the culprit red handed. And Unity really needs to hand the hat over for that to count.

Exurban didn’t do much ‘catch’ as ‘was caught by’ the perpetrator, so Skin Horse still did good getting it off of him.

You could almost say that Foot-Face surrendered, since he tackled Esteban right in front of everyone.

They might have caused injury and chaos, but they were invited in.

      June 22, 2020, 2:15 pm | # | Reply

Yeah, but that defense doesn’t work. Sure, it’ll make the Queen think twice about inviting them back, but if you ask someone into your house to help you move, and they end up beating you senseless and robbing you, it’s still their fault, even though you invited them in.

Although in this case it’s more like being beaten up and robbed by the druggie buddy they invited in without your permission.

I can see where Virginia’s weather machine can prevent Bad Island’s inundation due to a hurricane storm surge, but it can’t counter an earthquake and the ensuing tsunami.

You wanna keep it down? Maybe Ira hasn’t thought of that yet, and you don’t want to give him any ideas.

Y’know, ferrying them from the Habakkuk back to Bad Island should be listed in the tally, too. So that would make it eighty percent good, twenty percent bad.

It’s just too good to be true,
They got the toes off of you.
    Foot-face had gathered a bunch,
And then they had him for lunch.
It comes from trusting the live,
    Listening to their jive,
It’s just too good to be true,
They got the toes off of you.

Though they’re worse for the wear,
It’s not like zombies have spares.
Their arms and legs might be green,
    To them it’s fancy cuisine.
    Limbs and digits they steal,
    Sometimes it seems so surreal.
It’s just too good to be true,
They got the toes off of you.

They say “tsunami,” with zombies in this plight,
They claim “tsunami,” to make it all alright.
They say “tsunami,” just as if they can see,
Oh, Skin-Horse, maybe, you bring a mystery,
Oh, Skin-Horse, maybe, you should be history,
And let you leave them, maybe, let you leave them…

    [Repeat first verse and bridge.]

—from “Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You,” Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio, sung by Frankie Valli.
