I like the explanation from Girl Genius (early on) about why creating a super-intelligent cat that normal cats instinctively recognize as dominant doesn’t mean that you’ll be able to use those normal cats as spies and saboteurs: even if the objective can be conveyed to a cat, as soon as the cat is unsupervised the mission will be forgotten the moment something more interesting comes along.
These cats, of course, have some of Unity in them. While the “main” Unity has made real progress on not doing exactly that, I doubt a small offshoot in a cat will be much more focused than the cat on its own.
Krosp: “Because they’re CATS! They’re ANIMALS! They CAN’T grasp complex CONCEPTS! Their attention span can be measured in MICROSECONDS! If I can even get them to UNDERSTAND what I want-”
“They are completely gung-ho until they FALL ASLEEP or see something MOVE!”
Every so often Brian gets himself run over or mauled by a raccoon or something. Remy lovingly extracts the blood to make a new Brian. Don’t tell Unity.
I like that explanation! I’m guessing that Brian is whichever hand works for the composition of the panel, but it would be funny to have multiple iterations…
It’s a testament to the weirdness censor that he could drive a dump truck full of corpses 900 miles across four states and not run into trouble. I assume he has an EZ Pass.
I’ve come to the conclusion that a dump truck is the ideal Apocalypse vehicle. Everybody, including law enforcement, assumes they must be local because they routinely destroy their license plates, swill down huge amounts of fuel, and are as close to an all-terrain vehicle as you can find on the road.
Besides, no one wants to investigate a dump truck too closely, they are, after all, in the business of getting rid of something.
With Cat-Like Tread
Upon our prey we steal
In silence dread
Our cautious way we feel
No sound at all
We never speak a word
A fly’s foot-fall
Would be distinctly heard
Right now they don’t know who’s out here. The barfed goop, with cats, commandeer. But a truck full of corpses may bring some new forces, and Remy and Brian appear.
Well, that explains the cats playing airhorns in the previous comic.
(It seems to me that adding some of Unity’s essence to the cats would, if anything, make them _easier_ to distract.)
backup has arrived!
Yes, Remy is clearly here to lend a hand. However, it should be noted that this probably cost many someones an arm and a leg …
It’s okay… they weren’t using them any more. Probably.
With a BEEP BEEP BEEP sound!
To be fair, he’s got that old Hoodoo Voodoo working in his favor. 🙂
Once again Sweetheart’s distaste for cats is validated.
Wouldn’t the Unity goop make the cats recognize Remy?
Which would explain why he and his dump truck managed to sneak in.
Catlike reflexes, catlike attention span…
Cats are sneaky about paying attention; felines may look like they’re distracted, but if a rodent sticks its head out, it’ll loose it.
They cats probably liked the treats Remy brought them.

“It was a MORONIC” IDEA!”
Is Brian a right hand or a left hand? ‘Cause it seems to vary from appearance to appearance.
He’s hand-be-dexterous. He can morph from a right hand to a left and back again at will.
This comment section need a like button just for your comment, awgie.
And a stock of smilies , maybe some sound effects and animations?

He’s a sinister right hand man
This is getting weirder and weirder.
That’s Shaenon’s and Jeff’s mission statement, I believe.
The weird draws you in… the weirder brings you back.
A friend of mine was talking about a cat she used to have that was afraid of mice, so this checks out.

You know what they say about hearding cats

Yaaaaaay my second favorite character is back! 😀
