“It logically follows, Sweetheart. See how each individual zombie gnaws differently on the waffle, once I and the syrup have lured them into attacking it in the same way as a tasty brain? Mass-produced zombies would tear at the waffle in much the same fashion: but these bite marks are, as they say, all over the map. Clearly each one was conceived and created as an individual work of monstrosity.”
Normally, that would be a valid theory. But Unity has the same arms she woke up with in the last panel on the 14th (although on the 15th and 16th, they looked decidedly different).
The proteins are different, but eggs and brains are pretty similar in terms of structure and composition. In theory her body chemistry could convert the albumin and yolk proteins into myelin and axial structures.
I’m going with even baseline Unity has enough knowledge of pop culture to make the reference without it actually meaning anything story-wise.
Of they don’t find the watch, and arm that goes with it, under the bed in the next few strips, I’d have to wonder what the connection was between missing parts and the nightmares. Is whatever is behind this assimilating a body?
Quite plausible, although it’s more of a Unity Starfish, IMHO. (No head and more of a radial symmetry than a bilateral one, as much as it has any. Also, Starfish Alien trope. Also, can lose and regain limbs, although not quite in the way regular starfish do).
So the zombies are becoming disarmed? O_o
That’s very al-arm-ing!
Kinda ch-arm-ing, though.
So every zombie was individually created by a mad scientist?

“Astounding!”
“Alimentary, my dear Sweetheart. Alimentary.”
*Applause*
You win the internet. Where shall I send the prize?
Indeed you are the Alpha Ghoul.
…We simply must see the appropriate garb, now.
This is Unity… I’m picturing a bubble pipe, two patch hats with their bills in opposite directions, and a towel around her neck, Superman style…
Check Unity’s latest arm.
Normally, that would be a valid theory. But Unity has the same arms she woke up with in the last panel on the 14th (although on the 15th and 16th, they looked decidedly different).
I had in mind seeing if it was wearing a watch.
Well, there wasn’t a watch on it on the 15th, which is the last time (actually the only time since she woke up) we saw her whole left arm.
Given that Unity’s known mental stimulant is fresh brains, shouldn’t that be a three-hemisphere problem?
And an injection of a seven-per-cent solution of spinal fluid. I suppose syrup could be substituted in a pinch.
She has said in the past that she can be smart on scrambled eggs, so why not waffles?

If any of us knew how Unity’s biochemistry worked, we’d be making zombies, not reading about them.
When she gets bored she gets lost in a six percent solution of maple.
Of all the things to be addicted to, this one I could get behind.
Indeed. After all, pancakes, waffles, and French toast are all just a delivery mechanism for maple syrup.
Elementary my dear Sweetheart.
Please tell me this is a Nate the Great send-up.
I love Sweetheart just wide-eyed looking back and forth between the two.
She always has that expression. This is more like the crowd at a tennis match following the volley.
Of they don’t find the watch, and arm that goes with it, under the bed in the next few strips, I’d have to wonder what the connection was between missing parts and the nightmares. Is whatever is behind this assimilating a body?
I was thinking another zombie ate it reflexively during a night terror.
Maybe the Unity Ant stole it.
I hadn’t even considered that. Good thinking.

Could be. Maybe it’s driven to collect ever more limbs, until it becomes disturbingly Shoggoth-like.
Just a dead ol’ boy.
Never needin’ that arm.
But they cut out a swatch—
He really misses that watch
Since the night it was gone.
Studyin’ those crimes,
‘Vestigatin’ those thrills.
Someday the waffles might get ‘em,
But the ghosts never will.
Makin’ it through,
Though they’ve been disavowed.
That’s just a little bit more
Than good taste has allowed.
They’re the Skin-Horse cops.
It’s just another lost limb.
But they don’t understand
Where the nightmares began
And keep a-comin’ for him.
