The fact that Dr. Jones and Tiger lily are separate entities is a hard one apparently. Do you think its due to an unresolved crush or because of Tip’s narcissism? Or a third option?

All he sees is a Jones that may not be completely out of his league.

I can’t see Tip going after Berenice, even if she somehow does end up giving him the chance. Too much like Tigerlily in one sense for him to ignore how unlike her she is in the other, once the point gets through his fat head.

(So, do the writers find these predictions irritating, or do they just laugh at how wrong we usually are?)

Possibly narcissism with Tip – he’s been having some difficulty processing people are different.

Possibly? More like probably, with a side of headdesk.

Panel 4: Is Tip about to play the theme from”Shaft” on the kazoo? He’s a wild man!

…I’m wondering if she’s actually mildly weirdness-blind. (A full on Bill-level would probably not have noticed the fall of the government.)

She seems to be pretty weirdness-aware to me

If she can’t tell that the government consists of animals (talking and otherwise), she’s pretty solidly reality-blind.

The thing is, one does not have to be unaware of the species of those who run the government in order to have a low opinion of them. ^_^

I’d say the real indication that she might be on Piro-vision is that she rules out teleportation so readily. (Though in fairness it might be the “talking the guards into bringing coathangers” part that may have aroused her renewed faith in government).

My question would be, is she a sane genius or a cured one? o_O

Ah, but if she does know that some people have the ability to build teleporters out of coathangers, she probably also knows that such people are, in fact, Mad.

And that must mean Tip, because why would he expect her to be able to?

(Alternately, not being reality-blind doesn’t mean you know everything; she could be aware of the uplifted animals, but never encountered an actual Mad Scientist.)

She sees the animals. She referred to the transformation to animals as mutations. I don’t think she’s reality blind or cured. I think she simply was never mad in this universe.

Calling Tip “innocent” is quite a stretch.

Calling Tip “stretchy” is not quite innocent

Whoa – what if – in this alternative universe, there are different laws of physics? Perhaps weirdness-blindness doesn’t exist here? Or, perhaps it has been eradicated (possibly by inoculating school children)?

I see no evidence that Tip’s mojo works any better with Bernice Jones than it does with Dr. Tigerlily Jones

It’s evident that she still doesn’t trust The Man, in the form of the government, though.

Funny how being thrown in a cell will do that to a person.

I really like this more realistic sarcastic and cynical version of Tiger Lily/Dr. Jones. 🙂

Wow, you’re right. Realistic, sarcastic, cynical – disillusioned with a barely sublimated state of pissed off. This is late 70s Dr. Jones.

Utterly spooky. I have just caught up with this page and exactly as Tip spoke in the last frame (21:18 GMT 21st November, BBC radio 2) Paul Gambaccini started up the theme from Shaft, on the radio in this room. Pray tell which alternate universe this strip was written in where such is even remotely possible. I shall not now be surprised to walk through a doorway to meet strangely altered analogues of my family and neighbours sometime – and notice the difference.
