Nice to see that Artie hasn’t changed *too* much from the Narbonic days.

It looks like he’s bulked up quite a bit.

“Tasty mode” is best name for Artie’s original form. 😀

Now if only he had a “tasty limp”…

I’m pretty confident it’s wholly relative, and many people consider his secondary form to be the tasty one.

        Snack form?

        Hmm, no, same problem.

I’ve always wondered if his voice changes when he transforms

    • awgiedawgie
      September 1, 2020, 12:24 am | # | Reply

Definitely. When he’s a gerbil, he doesn’t sound like Ted Koppel. He didn’t acquire that voice until Helen concocted the human body for his Brazil excursion.

        September 1, 2020, 12:42 pm | # | Reply

I know it’s canon, but I’ve just NEVER been able to hear Ted Koppel in my head when reading Artie.

It’s that trace of a British accent in Koppel’s speech. Artie just doesn’t have it.

        September 1, 2020, 11:29 pm | # | Reply

But once it happened, did he retain the voice when he went back to gerbil form? I think there was a Narbonic strip about that

        • awgiedawgie
          September 2, 2020, 12:41 am | # | Reply

I just re-read everything from the Brazil mission to the end, and I couldn’t find any strip to that effect.

But if he still sounded like Ted Koppel after changing back into a gerbil, then clone-Dave should have been able to hear him talking, even if he couldn’t see him. He would just sound like he was always in the next room. But clone-Dave couldn’t see him or hear him when he was a gerbil.

Yes, Cinnabon, he may be in “tasty” mode now, but just try and take a bite, and he could easily return to “giant biped” mode in the blink of an eye… or the hic of an up, whatever.

Clearly Artie made a mistake when he expected a cat to actually do the assigned homework.

He made a mistake if he expected a cat to do much of anything.

Cats actually do a lot. Sleeping after a meal is hard work but they never hesitate to do their duty in that regard! ^_~

Some cats are actually very good hunters, and will keep your household largely clear of insects, or rodents, etc. However, you can’t count on every cat to do that, and they certainly aren’t likely to do what you want on your schedule.

Artie looks fatter, or more “settled”, to me. Anyway, Cinnamon still agrees with you.

I would hate to encourage outdoor cat predation, but Artie’s an exotic. Whether he could be called invasive is a question that in this case is abnormally complex.

So is Cinnamon the result of some mad UC Berkeley scientist’s experiments on cats, or do all cats talk (just not to us)?

    • D. Walker
      September 1, 2020, 12:49 pm | # | Reply

Not all non-human sapients are either natural or intentionally created – Tip’s time in the Annex One basement showed us a fair number just sort of “happen” accidentally through dumping of things like radioactive waste and chemicals.

It’s been implied that the Sasquatchi (Sasquatches?) have existed on Earth for a long time before Mr. Berk misled Dr. Haller about them. So why not cats?

Most cats keep their own counsel. It’s a rare human they deign worthy of interest, much less judgement.

Read Cat*A*Lyst from Allen Dean Foster. Some cats are actually super-intelligent aliens who are guiding our civilization to care for their primitive “cousins” that are results of convergent evolution. Cinnamon might be a scout or anthropologist studying the feral population of the Bay Area to see if some are ready to join the greater society. And score some mice for dinner.

I believe that there are many people who would argue that this is *not* Artie’s “tasty mode.”

Extremely late to the party, but since I haven’t noticed this not so clever guess spelled out in its entirety… No spoilers, that’s the point. Also, I don’t have proof and I could be wrong. Also also, probably a tricky cryptogram to solve in a vacuum.

Code Two: “RT-5478 always looks tasty as a gerbil.” 4 out of 5 cats agree. The other one likes the human form for lap snuggles. Did Helen Beta really make over five *thousand* gerbils?!
