All you have to do is ask any grunt, or find a picture of one setting out on patrol.
As a general rule it equates to one’s own body weight or better, and it gets heavier with every step.
Unfortunately, all the gardeners were the first to be targeted by the Biomass. (1) It eliminates a dangerous enemy quickly, and (2) AltUnity needed someone to trim her outfits for her.
It must be confusing to distinguish the assimilated sentients from the topiary.
It’s not clear whether the forms in the Biomass are assumed avatars or they are unchangeable, but if they are avatars, then alt-Unity and especially alt-not-Benjamin-Franklin are either unimaginative or very comfortable with their bodies. In alt-Unity’s case, assuming her original appearance would make more sense because Unity’s appearance is largely assumed to begin with. Another variation: it’s innate, but only because that is the form their bodies innately understand, like the Swamp Thing (in one of its versions).
Unity’s had some experience of gardening. I haven’t seen any signs to suggest that anyone thought to bring any useful tools with them when they went to find the Biomass. Maybe Unity’s got something useful in hammerspace.
During the Korean War the Chinese came over the border and Chesty Puller got a radio call from a guy saying so. When Puller asked how many Chinese there were the guy said ‘A whole great big peapot full, sir!
If Kansas is on that list, I’m going to assume it’s the western 1/3 (the part that’s actually flat) that uses “passel” I’ve lived in Kansas for 29 years of my live and I’ve never heard the term “passel” or the phrase “butt-passel”.
I think that might be Nick Sweetheart is talking to but doesn’t realize it.
If Joshua’s love of westernisms doesn’t catch on, at least he can rekindle Nick’s love of hating things. It’s a win/win.
I always wondered what a gruntload looked like.

I’m always confused at the conversion rates between Imperial and Metric buttloads…
Over here, the conversion rate between “shitloads” and the more polite “shedloads” can cause all kinds of trouble.
Weeds, man. Somebody should talk to the gardener.
I think he’s buried under there somewhere. Still holding the weedwhacker he grabbed to deal with this.
Nick (if it is Nick) has got some pretty good weedwhackers of his own with those rotor blades…

So, they landed near an ordinary Kudzu vine. Cool.
When does the biomass actually get there?
During the Korean War the Chinese came over the border and Chesty Puller got a radio call from a guy saying so. When Puller asked how many Chinese there were the guy said ‘A whole great big peapot full, sir!
Terminator 2: “All of them, I think!”
“Westernisms”?
I’ve heard of Southernisms but never Westernisms. What states would that entail?

Sounds like Alex from The Expanse
Where is Helen’s cellular destabiliser when you need it?
…or at least Gentle Persuasion.
