So, Nick wasn’t in the drone…

    Sweetheart wasn’t in the drone…

Hmmm, who does that leave, and what were they doing?

    (the suspense is building!)

If Sweetheart thinks that reaction to the posters is normal and acceptable then she may need a non Tip psychiatrist. After a close call long term sensory deprivation Nick might need a teddy bear too.

Well, Sweetheart was bothered enough by the one poster to stay up all night fretting over it, so she probably finds frustrating screaming quite reasonable considering Nick’s more extroverted personality. Not that she wouldn’t benefit from some sessions with a good therapist, however!

I’ll agree with you on Nick (and a stuffed Baron Mistycorn would be a nice touch), but if the entire crew were actually sane they really wouldn’t be able to do their jobs, now would they? Only the half mad can really withstand the completely nuts.

He needs *HUGS* from Baby Cobras.

So will Nick let the others in on what happened? Will he be allowed to?

I’m waiting for the horror tomorrow when he tries to explain what happened and it’s censored by the coopted swear filter.

The thing I find rather upsetting is that, to my best recollection, Nick’s brain is physically mounted into the Osprey – so in order to do this to him, one either has to have scary-close physical access, or one has to have scary-powerful NSA-level magical remote control powers of the “we can remotely switch on the phone you don’t even have” magnitude.

I *think* (and ICBW) that Goldbug could only do it because Nick was attempting to jack into the drone. Less remotely switching on the phone you don’t have and more “That phone you’re calling, the one that used to be mine, but which you think you hacked? Bad idea.”

Actually… The suspicion was that the Osprey was bugged, while the drone was safe. I think the info came from Dr. Lee, but I can’t find a ref right now. Now, whether she can really be trusted (or, for that matter, whether she can be mistaken), is a different thing…

Could be both, really. If Goldbug has the right passwords or codes, there’s no reason he/she/it couldn’t hack Nick from anywhere in the world. (Remembe, he’s online all the time.)

I think it’s more worrying that they built Nick, and his brain, in the first place.

Yeah, I’ve always found what Dr. Lee did to Nick highly disturbing. Nick, however, appears to have forgiven her, and learned to enjoy what he is now. (Except, I guess, once he started developing feelings for Dr. Lee. I’m pretty sure he’s realized the downside to his current body by now.)

He’s wanted to “do” Dr. Lee for a long time. I’m pretty sure he still doesn’t know that she likes him that way, so nothing has really changed since then.

In the absence of edduard…from “Back in the Saddle Again,” Gene Autry. (Also Firesign Theater, but I don’t know that version that well.)

Nick’s back from the shadows again.
Out where he can make amends.
    No longer all alone,
And not jacked into the drone,
    Back from the shadows again.

Away from the dark and the pain.
Caused by his tiny tiny brain.
Where his copter is in flight,
    And the censor filters right.
    Back from the shadows again.

    Whoopi-ti-aye-yi,
He can scream and laugh and cry,
    Back from the shadows again.
    Whoopi-ti-aye-yo,
    And he’s back on audio,
    Back from the shadows again.

He’s back from the shadows again,
Didn’t go out around the bend.
    He is safe and free,
He can hang with Dr. Lee,
    Back from the shadows again.

You do fine filks, but did Ed say when he’d be back (from the shadows)?

Oh gods. I just realized something hilarious and somewhat disturbing about Nick and Virginia. Two words: turbulent flight.

And this is why you should never trust anyone who only acknowledges Nick as “a human brain in a jar”.
