Even in the real non-mad world, nerds of this magnitude likely have far more potent libations than mere coffee.

Ah, but you forget, Sweetheart is a coffee gal

She seems a little miffed too. Maybe she needs to kick over a cup.

      Like molten phenol, for example?

I was thinking they were either sexist or just paranoid. But when it comes to the setup of a complex game no amount of paranoia is unjustified.

    Which Tip?

Given that one is male and new to this reality and thus has never harmed this group, I’d assume the female one with warnings about her

Could be the no-boob Tip, pardoned for fashion offenses.

And you think that these people would be ones to persecute /anyone/ on those grounds?

But…Heroclix setups aren’t THAT complex. Now, if she broke their custom Galactus figure, that would be different.
I was just a little surprised that they didn’t see Unity as being worthy of study.

There was an existing Unity in this universe, they may have already seen her.

Yeah, but her colors are flopped. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Maybe, maybe not. Could be if our Unity meets alt-Unity, they might try to kill each other.

That’s because you nerds keep setting them up wrong 😛

It’s slightly funnier if you imagine that Boob Tip is the one vouching for the end of the rage plague, and the scientist, to her face, is mourning the adulteration of his Heroclix setup.

Even after the apocalypse, HeroClix is SRS BSNS.

“Squat below its line of sight and scuttle away with a crablike gait!” Hey, worked on Narbonic…

Y’know, I had to look up Heroclix on Wikipedia…I enjoy all the references but there’s lots I don’t know—anything involving gaming, and only limited knowledge about comics. (I spend most of my juvenile life reading science fiction and fantasy in the books and magazines.)

This is my main problem with the paper versions of both Narbonic and Skin Horse: (many of) the explanations or pointing out of references in the comments (here) or commentary (there) aren’t included. For my part, I get most of the gaming/nerd references (I think), but it’s all the references to American children’s books and movies I don’t get. Heck, I’ve never read the Velveteen Rabbit and had no idea the name was a reference ’till someone mentioned it in the comments. Different languages, different children’s books, in large part.

Oh, I don’t mind “not getting it.” Sometimes explaining it cheeses me off. Berke Breathed put out these volumes of “Bloom County,” and I picked up Volume One and found little condescending explanations of virtually every little thing in the strips—things I *did* get—which irritated me so much I didn’t buy the other volumes.

I embraced my geekdom late in life, so most of the geek culture refs here and in Narbonic were just names of wonder and mystery to me. I’ve since stumbled across or tracked down quite a few, which is always a joy. SF writer Charles Stross throws in cryptic references and in-jokes about everything from marine biology to the history of espionage. Between “not getting it” and Wikipedia, you can learn a LOT.
