I’ve seen that bear and the duck before…. but where?

I know they are supposed to be in color and probably computer generated but probably not from ‘tin toy’. I *know* I’ve seen them before but where?

This is just getting better and better. **glee** Five bucks says they meet an Ur-gerbil at some point.

    Jenkins? Leroy Jenkins?

The jazz musician, the televangelist or the fictional World of Warcraft player? None of them seem to have much to do with space-folding.

Googling, I found a mathematician at the University of London called Oliver Jenkinson, whose speciality appears to be advanced topology (it’s hard to tell, since I don’t even understand the titles of his papers…)

There was an televangelist named Leroy Jenkins? That’s funny.

The WoW player is called Leeroy, with two “e”s.

I wonder if it’s because they’re BEASTmen, or if it’s because they’re beastMEN.

Or is it both? Well, look’s like Tip can have fun at least. Even more horizons to broaden!

We already knew Sergio was gay since L’il Mell, so I guess it’s because they’re BEASTmen.

He’s not. He’s bi. He says as much in Lil’ Mell. (In the future he does have a husband, but that doesn’t mean one stops being bi.)

So, from what I’ve gathered so far after compiling all that I’ve read in this and Narbonic… There’s just not enough overlap to be entirely set in the same Universe. Though given the Madness inherent here and there, that’s not entirely surprising even as it is a bit saddening. Great work so far on all your endeavors though!

    • Daibhid C
      August 14, 2012, 5:12 am | # | Reply

What makes you say that? In this storyline alone we’ve got Ruby from Narbonic and Sergio from Li’l Mell. Previously, we’ve had Artie, the Robot Union, and the massive hint that Unity is what happend to the sample of Mell’s DNA that Helen sold to the U.S. military.

I’m sure there are discrepencies, but are they great enough to overrule that?

        August 14, 2012, 6:07 am | # | Reply

Wait, this Ruby is Narbonic’s Ruby?! …. yeah, duh. She looks just enough different than the Narbonic version that I no longer recognize her as one of the bridesmaids from my wedding. 🙂

Ha, guess having taken the time to go back and read the Director’s Cut of Narbonic after reading the full archives of this one left me with a few memory lapses on both! Still going through Narbonic Redux, currently on the Doppelganger Gambit right now…

Well, I’d say that technically we’re not in ‘the Narboniverse’ anymore, given all the hooplah that Jonah and Nera went through.

Assuming Jonah and Nera started in the true “Narboniverse”. For all we know, they could’ve ended there or never went there at all, traveling only through parallel dimensions.

            August 14, 2012, 10:06 am | #

Well, even then, either we weren’t in Narboniverse Prime before ‘Choose’, or we aren’t now.

            August 14, 2012, 10:47 am | #

So just consider that we’re still in the Narbonibrane.

            August 14, 2012, 11:19 pm | #

This is a misconception of what is meant by the multiverse. They’re all the “true” Narbonibrane, insofar as a “true” Narbonibrane is defined as a brane in which the events of Narbonic happened. The current brane is just a branch of the Narbonibrane in which Nera and Jonah survive.

I think we might be able to conclude this. also lil’ mel shouldn’t be part of the narbonavirse, unless artie went back in time. Which may be the case but it’s questionable. Still I’m all for Sergio reuniting with his long lost kindergarten sub.

Artie going back in time to be in Lil’ Mell was mentioned in one of the last Narbonic strips by Dave and Helen’s kid from the future.

    (TUNE: “Summertime Blues”, Eddie Cochran)

Now the guy named Sergio’s talking to Virginia!
And he says, “St. Charlie, there’s so much space within ya!
Euclidian space-time is tied up in a knot …
(I don’t know how to feel, ’cause the beast-men are hot!)
My eyes I don’t believe, and my mind I’m gonna lose!”
But you know what helps? Drinkin’ lots ‘n’ lotsa booze!

You can fold space with Jenkinsonian quadratics!
It can hold space, more than in Dr. Who’s attics!
Virginia’s wound up, she’s feeling so tense!
(“It’s getting to me still, ’cause it doesn’t make sense!”)
She’s gotta solve a puzzle, without any clues …
But you know what helps? Drinkin’ lots ‘n’ lotsa booze!

If your brain is bent, and you’re tired of all this thinking …
Then it’s time to stop talking and start some heavy drinking!
You have a few shots, then you have a few more …
(You know what’s coming next, ’cause of Rule Thirty-Four!)
They’re lonely, and puzzled, and they’re stuck on this cruise …
But you know what helps? Drinkin’ lots ‘n’ lotsa booze!

Yanno, that’s a suspiciously U.N.I.T.Y.-type thing for Ginny to say. Perhaps there have been more after-effect from their merger than we’ve been shown before.

Loki: Indeed, we’ve already seen that there are major after-effects — both characters were absolutes before, and now each has been moderated by a tinge of the other.

Let’s see. We have Artie pining about his love of latin men a comic before Sergio briefly shows up in http://narbonic.com/comic/october-23-28-2006/ . We have the two of them sitting together at dinner in the very last panel of Narbonic. We know from Lil’ Mell that Sergio ends up with a husband. And now Sergio is talking about how hot the beastmen are.

Considering they are both supergeniuses who are sane and try, but struggle, to do good, and both feel terribly alone because they feel no one understands them… I think Shaenon has been hinting at that for a very long time.

It’s a tough call, but I think I’m going to have to go with going back in time to teach your lover’s first-grade class being less creepy than hooking up with someone you first met while teaching their first-grade class in the past.

(But indications are that Artie didn’t know Sergio when he was teaching their class.)

Isn’t that a major portion of the plot of a popular novel adapted into a movie a few years back? (Title omitted because that represents a spoiler…)

The last panel doesn’t bode well for the future in this comic, especially given the amount of mad science Lee is likely to see.

“Hi, my name is Virginia, and I’m an alcoholic.”
