Playlist #11
Shaenon: Hey, here’s something we haven’t seen in a while. A Skin Horse playlist! I only get to do these under special circumstances.
Channing: Glimpses into Shaenon’s music library are always fascinating! Here’s hoping you find some of these tracks evocative.
The End of the World. How appropriate the band name
Well, you’ve ascended to new heights of making me feel like a philistine with this one, in that I’m familiar with exactly none of these tracks. I usually have at least one or two. (I think I’ve at least heard The Cure one, but it’s not in my collection and I can’t call it to mind.) At least there are three where I have other tracks by the artist.
No TMBG in this list, which is usually a reliable source of “Ah! I have that one!”
There are six here where I’ve at least heard of the artist, and that’s about it. Although I’m sure I’d recognise some of them if I hear them.
Wait, looking it up, “Fox on the Run” was apparently the song in the Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2 trailer. It’s amazing how much that doesn’t jog my memory…
New record high for me – I know three bands, but only one song.
I amend that: I know the song Fox on the Run, still don’t know Connolly.
Took me a minute on Brian Connolly. He was the lead singer of Sweet, and I know he recorded himself doing “The Ballroom Blitz” without Sweet, so he undoubtedly did so with “Fox on the Run” as well.
Though “Fox on the Run” has the odd status of being a song that I’ve probably heard before, but am not absolutely sure on. Doesn’t help that I started to think of Steeleye Span’s “Fox” for a moment before I noticed the artist name…
Oh, cool! I’ve been playing Love is Like Oxygen in Lord of the Rings Online recently, I had a show as part of a festival series Saturday night that was focused on songs with great guitar rifts. Thanks for the info, much appreciated!
And why my icon and account switch back and forth, I have no idea.
It’s also a new record high for me I guess. I got four.
How about Steam-Powered Giraffe’s version of Honeybee?
Fox on the Run is a good choice, though.
REM’s End of the World would also be appropriate
A playlist that’s loaded with tracks. Unfortunate I don’t know jack. Familiar names present, but I’m obsolescent. Another list takes me aback.
