Wrapping Paper, Even
Shaenon: Excuse me, but may I blow your mind? For Christmas, my dear friend and Skin Horse colorist Pancha Diaz made me a roll of Baron Mistycorn wrapping paper. The only problem is that there is no gift on earth worthy of this wrapping. Lookit the angry unicorn!
Channing: I have to say I never dreamed that I would see one of my own characters on wrapping paper. Obviously the ideal thing to wrap in Baron Mistycorn wrapping paper is some sort of next-gen gaming console. The proper thing to say when unwrapping such a present is “F-ing sweet.”
Not sure what I’m seeing: did you create a roll of Baron Mistycorn wallpaper or wrapping paper? Either way, it’s too cool for school. How did this come to be a thing in the world, and how can there be more of it? (Ya know, if you slapped a hula skirt on him, you could wallpaper your tiki office.)
Oh, my big duh, I didn’t read the title, and your commentary hadn’t posted yet.
Pancha rules, but I still want to know how she did it.
it’d take some playing with to get the resolution and pattern to work, but I figure most color plotters could be used to generate the paper. That would be for normal weight plotter paper of course.
I think that ‘normal’ commercial paper is done with screen printing on a continuous drum (think the old mimeograph machines that output damp funny smelling copies).
When I dabbled with screen printing back in 8th grade, biggest screen printing setup we had was a 3′ square. Of course you would need multiple layouts to do multicolored images, and alignment was a pain doing that sort of multi-layer
That is so many shades of awesome that I ran out of braincells trying to count them all!
I have to imagine a package wrapped in that going through the mail. I bet they’d stop sorting just to look at it
Don’t do it—the wrapping paper just doesn’t hold up when the parcels are processed.
This needs to become merchandise!
I’m sure it’s been said before but you guys should look into plushies.
You really want to inflict a Unity plushie on the world?
WANT! Preferably positionable for that “Lurch for the Cure” look!
I also want a Sweetie plushie! With that deeply happy look she had when Unity saved her from freezing!
Tip would have to be a pink-aisle fashion doll, but Moustachio would make a nice resin kit.
But what would be really neat? Cute cobras to wind around your neck. Squeeze the tail and you hear “Big words are scary!” “Hugs!” and “It smells like librarian in here!”
And while I’m dreaming, a silverfish Pagliacci!
If anybody oughtta be a plushie, it should be Sweetheart. She’s already kinda fuzzy…
Unity plushie? Try Unity potato-head doll, with a whole set of extra limbs!
And if you spill some of the black goop from the center of the doll on your other toys, then they will also snap onto the potato-head.
I just googled “custom wrapping paper” and was surprised to find out that this is something that anybody could have made (provided they are willing to spend $15 a roll). All you need to do is provide a picture (possibly confirmation that you have the right to use copywrited images) and the payment and a roll of customized wrapping paper can arrive with pictures of anything from Baron Mistycorn to Phoenix, my late cheesebeagle.
I may have to look deeper into this – possibly surprise my Mrs. with wrapping paper of our cats for her birthday.
I imagine Wedding photos for wrapping anniversary gifts would go over well.
You can also get custom cloth and custom wallpaper. There may be other places, but spoonflower dot com will provide. And if you allow outside sales of your design you get a tiny little commission. You have to swear that you are not violating copyright and/or trademark. But speaking of plushies, quite a few of the patterns on spoonflower are patterns that can be cut out, sewn, and stuffed to make stuffed toys.
ACK! Now I want a mod, mad science utility vest!
Good Eye. I never even considered that that was the Printer’s logo on the center band.
A blind spot because my wife stamps/cards/scrapbooks – so I’m used to custom gift labels.
Don’t know if folks will see this, this late in the day … too much happening this morning.
(TUNE: “Pretty Paper”, Willie Nelson)
[CHORUS:]
Awesome paper! Custom paper to wrap!
Who can silence Baron Mistycorn’s yap?
’Cause he thinks it’s a boatload of cr*p!
Saw some paper, awesome paper to wrap!
Look at this, from my pal, Pancha Diaz!
Custom paper, with my own design!
For there’s no other gift that could be as
F–ing sweet as this paper of mine!
It’s too bad, but I can’t ever use it …
There’s no gift that is worthy of it!
I’ll just stare at and fondly peruse it,
Watching Mistycorn losing his s**t!
[repeat CHORUS]
So when you are giving someone a gift of custom wrapping paper … do you wrap it?
So… I need 5 rolls. How much?
