Great Moments With Baron Mistycorn
Shaenon: A half-inked page from the Skin Horse 5 bonus story, “Great Moments With Baron Mistycorn.” This story is mostly unicorns talking to each other, so thanks, Jeff!
Channing: I believe it was the Greek philosopher Aristotle who, in his Poetics, first stated the now-widespread truism of dramatic structure “Every good story should contain at least one friggin’ unicorn.” I am proud to report that the Volume 5 bonus comic cleaves closely to this Aristotelian ideal. This comic is also autobiographical because people keep messing around with the roller coasters of my childhood. Also, I am secretly two unicorns.
Panel 4 is a reference to Club 33, I take it?
But of course!
You’re secretly two unicorns, nyao? Amazing! I’m secretly a superintelligent housecat pretending to be a catgirl on the internet, so I’ll keep your secret if you’ll keep mine, nyao! (Especially if you can help get me set up with a date with Mell–she’s SO CUTE, nyaaa… {purr})
This should be an awesome story.
Which one is Baron Mistycorn? All unicorns look alike to me.
I’m pretty sure Baron Mistycorn is the one with the cigar. You know, the loud, obnoxious, one.
Actually, how many characters in and around “Skin Horse” *aren’t* obnoxious and loud?
Hmm… Gavotte, Bubbles, Dr. Lee, Mustachio, about half of the various Basement Dwellers, Chris, Artie…
Besides, what cigar? One of ’em is wearing a headset.
I’m thinking they’re both Baron Mistycorn from two different parks.
JUST took a closer look and finally associated the ‘single riders’ sign and the woman he’s with in the center image.
Now (to my shame) all I can think of is the ‘flash mountain’ fad that was the rage 20 years ago – with people flashing the cameras on the various roller coasters and rides at amusement parks.
I’m thinking they’re both Baron Mistycorn from two different shifts.
Shouldn’t Baron Mistycorn already have access to the Cricket Club?
“Also, I am secretly two unicorns.”
A lot less secretly now, though.
If you are two unicorns, are you a bicorn? duacorn? Cornucopia?
