Creepy Kitchen
Shaenon: Another Kickstarter commission. This request was for a haunted kitchen. You know what’s hard to draw? Kitchens.
What am I saying? Everything is hard to draw except Hiller flying platforms.
Channing: Basically what I think Shaenon is saying is that if you’re a big fan of Hiller platforms, please consider pledging at the drawing-commission level next Kickstarter.
On a more on-topic note, that is indeed a creepy kitchen.
Aaaaa! Aaaaa! What’s that… that THING hanging on the wall?? Is it a… is that….
…it IS!!
IT’S A FISH! AAAAAAAAAAAA! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
There aren’t many kitchens scarier than my mom’s from when I was a kid in the midwest:
Vegetables boiled to a lumpy green pulp….
Meat beyond well done….
Dinner rolls microwaved until they’re rubber….
The one above does make me pause, though. I think I’ve shaken hands with that arm on the wall.
Wait, wait – that’s not Eddurd’s arm on the wall, is it? Because that would be…
…
… Arm o’ Gedeon!
Holy crap, you’re PREGNANT!!! I don’t know how I missed that link, but belated congratulations. Actually, I think you and Andrew kind of owe it to the gene pool to breed, but no pressure. I hope everything is going splendidly. I’ve been giving everyone Andrew’s Looney Tunes Treasury as a baby gift (inculcate them with culture while they’re young, I say), but I’m guessing you already haver a copy.
But seriously, congratulations. I’m so happy for you both.
“If it’s a boy, Ulysses David. If it’s a girl, Ulyssea Davida. That’s it.”
I still don’t see a link or text anywhere claiming anyone’s pregnant, but I’ll attribute that to a failure on my part…
Congratulations to all involved!
I’m not sure where you’re getting the pregnancy clue, either, Manifesta–but on the other hand, I know exactly where you got that “Ulyssea Davida” quote, and you are awesome for doing so.
Also, even if I missed the pregnancy announcement myself, very large congratulations to Andrew and Shaenon!
For that, I must slap you …
(waves stump ineffectually)
Damn.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I’m dying!!!

Very scary kitchen,
Frightening and strange!
Drawn for a commission,
Got a chunk o’ change!
Lots of sharp utensils,
Parts of bodies dead!
(These are just the pencils …
Need to paint it red!)
When your project is set,
But the funds you can’t get,
Then you Kickstart!
Creepy kitchen bonus art!

I’d make my request Hitler flying platforms with scary kitties, possibly flying out of a kitchen.
So was Nick named after this technological marvel from days gone by? (Link is SFW regardless of the name, it is a mechanical step up converter for radios)

I think we and they just drew it from the same German word! That is some neat oldtech, though!
The word literally means “chopper” in German.
In the case of the electronic component, it refers to the conversion of DC to AC by chopping up the current mechanically.
To illustrate just how old this technology is just look at the input DC voltage. It’s been a very long time since cars used a 6 volt system and only vacuum tubes could stand up to the voltage spikes these things generated.
You know what that kitchen needs? That kitchen needs more BASIL! And maybe Mugwort, cause it’s a cool name.
