Let’s Dress Nick! (Comic-Con Edition)
Shaenon: Sketches from the San Diego Comic-Con. I also drew this for the Cartoon Art Museum’s Sketch-a-Thon:
Comic-Con was super fun. Thanks so much to everyone who stopped by to say hi to me. Next year we should make Jeff go!
Channing: Well, I have always wanted to check out that scene some day. Maybe 2014 is the year? Then again, there is that cosplay. So, so very much cosplay. *shudder*
I’m sorry, I was traumatized by a “Winnie-the-Pooh” show as a child and as a result, even good cosplay freaks out me a little. I am being absolutely serious here.
And a pleasure meeting you, too! — Mildly Annoyed Scientist
So awesome to meet you! (again)
Poor Nick, can’t even curse properly outside canon.
‘TARDOI’, I think. Either that, or TARDIS is a mass noun and there isn’t any plural.
One tardis, two tardes – 3rd declension, i-stem.
Hence the traditional Gallifreyan greeting ¡Buenas Tardes!
*Puts on geek hat (It’s a fez! Fezzes are cool!)*
The Doctor Who Expanded Universe uses TARDISes. The important thing to remember is that TARDIS is an acronym, but the “es” isn’t, so is written lower case.
Never mind the Expanded Universe, “TARDISes” was used in at least two Classic Series stories (“The Time Monster” and “Logopolis”).

Hey, Jeff—Lemur-related news! I just got the free TED Talks app for my iPhone. I was browsing the speakers, and found—much to my surprise, as he predeceased TED by several years—a 2001 talk by Douglas Adams called “Parrots, the universe, and everything.” He was speaking at UC Santa Barbara about Madagascar’s aye aye lemur, and other creatures he followed while researching his wonderful 1990 book Last Chance to See. It’s a charming, lemuriffic talk, and it’s also available at http://www.uctv.tv/shows/Douglas-Adams-Parrots-the-Universe-and-Everything-5779.
‘Last Chance To See’ is my favorite Douglas Adams book. Just really great.
Thanks for the link! I’ve read Last Chance to See, but I’ve never seen the supporting material.
I’ve always wanted the CD-ROM. It had Adams reading the book, Carwardine doing color commentary, excerpts from the radio show and scads of pictures. Sadly, they never updated it from Apple OS 7/Windows 3.1.
Do emulators exist? Could you run it on DOSBox?
I’m marginally surprised you didn’t dress him up as a magical girl (e.g. Sailor Moon, complete with odangos and ridiculously large bows)…
Probably because it’s too easy a leap to that conclusion.
Megatokyo magical girls have more variety of costumes and abilities.
Stay-Puft Girl is kinda close, sort of.
This is DELICIOUS!
Serves Nick right for getting all snarky when I hook him up with a free Ono-Sendai. :p
mnem
Now; if she does him up as Sailor Moon, my revenge will be perfect… MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
Heh, I love the Nick stuff, keep messing with him!
Oh, and the ghostbusters one is the best.
(TUNE: “My Way”, Paul Anka)
It’s sick!
It’s so messed up!
It’s near-obscene!
Just look, and we see …
It’s Nick!
He’s all dressed up
In costumes seen
At SDCC!
Somehow,
He got his name
From man of tin
Way out by Oz way …
And now,
Much to his shame,
He’s doing cos-play!
A beast,
‘Twas called by Zool,
Mad of Stay-Puft …
Bill Murray trapped her!
At least,
The next one’s cool!
He rides a tough
Velociraptor!
We see
Vanellope,
And next to her,
A group of Tardae!
He’ll be
A he or she,
While doing cos-play!
And while he wears
This sissy shift,
Through filtered swears,
We get his drift!
When dressed as Lum
Or Jesus freak,
He’ll think it’s dumb!
He’ll think it’s weak!
Ms. Garrity
Will draw, with glee,
Nick doing cos-play!
Excellent as always, Ed, filking your way.
Thanks for your filk, Tetra, my wife and friends thoroughly enjoyed it!
Jeff’s childhood trauma seems to explain a lot about Skin Horse, especially the current arc.
What’s the color scheme for the TARDIS Tartan?
One down, seven to go: http://nickzerhakker.wordpress.com/2013/04/21/14/
Okay, now I want to see all of these in color.
Marcie is the most adorable TARDIS ever.
Jeff, I understand about the childhood trauma. But I suggest you learn from the greats: in this case, Xander Harris, who was traumatized at age 6 by a clown at a birthday party and developed a fear of clowns. The only solution is to face that fear as Xander did! Of course, that means going out, finding someone dressed as Winnie the Pooh, and beating the snot out of them.
I think that might qualify as “substantial battery.”
As you probably know, The Rose of Versailles (with Lady Oscar) has finally been released on R1 DVD. And yes, Nick, operating Violet, cosplaying as Lady Oscar, is more than a bit nested …
I am so disappointed in Nick for not knowing that Jesus was actually a lich.
What I want to know is was the “Christian Picketer” literally a picketer outside the con, or was it an attendee dressed as one.
It’s Nick dressed as one.
Lum is definitely the winner here for me.
