Three Solid Pages of Pig Drawings
Shaenon: You know what’s a really mean thing to do to an artist? Write a script introducing a character who is so cute he gives cute dogs heart attacks from cuteness. And you actually have to show this character. What I mean to say is, Jeffrey Wells is a terrible, terrible man.
Channing: On the plus side, I did do a bunch of panels set in against a very black background recently. That’s gotta count for something, right?
Oh, isn’t that just the cutey-w00test widdle piggly-wumpkins EVAR!!!
mnem
Oka… I’ll just be over here dying a little inside.
I imagine that if he were less cartoony, he would look something like this: http://twitpic.com/d2aov4 (Eeeeeeeee widdle piggins!)
AUGHKJ *heart attack*
The cuteness is all well and good, but I want to know more about the confused, Christopher-Robin-looking kid at the top of he second page. Is this perhaps the much vaunted daughter of Collodi?
Actually, that’s the artist, giving Jeffrey Wells the hairy eyeball for having written this cutesy wutesy piglet-thing. Note the air of exasperation.
Jeff you mukluk
(TUNE: “Big Spender” from Sweet Charity, Cy Coleman & Dorothy Fields)
The second you looked at the script,
You could tell this was a problem looming,
A real big challenge!
Cute piggy! We’ll pass out!
‘Cause being cute is what the Little House is about!
I tell ya, the cartoonist flipped!
Must be cuter still, it makes her want to cuss …
Hey, pig sketcher!
Sketch … a little pig for us!
No, he doesn’t go oink … oink … oink …
Doesn’t eat from a (oink) trough, (oink) trough, (oink) trough,
Doesn’t live in a (oink) (trough) pig sty,
Oink, trough, pig sty,
OINK! TROUGH! PIG STY!
The second you looked at the script,
You were cursing Jeff, while filling pages
With lots of sketches …
You did it! Now you’ve drawn
A cardiac-arrest-inducing animatron!
I tell ya, my heart really skipped!
He’s a cutie-pie because you’ve drawn him thus …
Hey, pig sketcher!
Hey, pig sketcher!
HEY, PIG SKETCHER!
Sketch … a little pig for us!
I KNOW I haven’t been getting enough sleep lately when the filks reduce me to giggles in the middle of the afternoon.
Shaenon, would you mind if I created a game, both tabletop and tablet, using the basement dwellers dynamic? I tried making Unity and cobra “Hug Me” coins to print out on my spiffy 3d printer to give to Jeff but SketchUp kept giving me bad files that wouldn’t print. While working on the files I thought up a coin game where each faction tries to gain control of the basement area, with the crew above providing strategic elements and comedy relief. Refining the idea showed it could be fun as a one-player mobile game for tablets.
So if you don’t mind I’d like to pitch it to http://www.gamesprout.com where they help people make games. I could do it generically, like just use “Friendly Snakes” instead of hugging cobras, and “psychologist” instead of “Tip in a Summer dress.” But it would still evoke Skin Horse to anyone who has read your comic. So I wanted to check with you first.
Also, I wanted to bring this up here to see if anyone in these forums would like to see a coin/territory game about the basement dwellers.
Thanks for asking!
Skin Horse is under a Creative Commons license, so you’re free to create any not-for-profit art you like from it. So if the game is just for your own entertainment, go for it. If you want to make a Skin Horse game for profit and/or to produce through a publisher, we’ll have to talk in a little more detail about what you plan to do. Email me (me at shaenon dot com) and we’ll talk.
I’m having strange feelings in my chest from seeing all those cunning hams… kind of a fluttering. Punching myself rhythmically in the sternum seems to be helping.
Eddurd: I tend to gloss over the filks that use tunes with which I am unfamiliar, and when I hit the last verse I started reading it to the tune of “Hey, Good Lookin” (Cole Porter, Hank Williams composition).
Palenoue: That sounds like it could be a super-fun game! I hope you succeeded is making it (especially making it freeware, but my only complaint about anything that gives Shaenon and her co-creators money is that it’s difficult for me and my generally-empty wallet to acquire :p )!
