Can you not understand her? It’s generally pretty easy, but requires context, e.g., saying “service service” while fixing Moustachio would definitely be saying what she was doing.
That fourth panel’s framing shot from a human vantage point I am familiar with fooled me pretty well. Some stupid part of my brain tells me it knows where that is and where I’m standing, and if the characters are in a real place then they must be real too; I suppose movies and comics must try to do that, but it hasn’t really worked on me before.
The WWII Memorial is missing. It should be visible at the east end of the reflecting pool.
Mind you, as a citizen of the District of Columbia, I say that that’s a good thing.
The WWII Memorial is a visual scar on the National Mall (although it’s technically in Potomac Park West, everyone calls it the Mall) and they ought to tear it out and start over.
“Scar” is an apt term. WWII – like all wars – was a great wound on the world. Scars are not pretty, but they are a reminder of something even more ghastly. I say leave the memorials – imperfect though they may be – just as they are, particularly for the sake of those whose families were directly and irrevocably affected by the war.

“Season 4 Recap
by shaenon on June 27, 2014 at 12:01 am
And that’s Season 4! I’m currently nine and a half months pregnant, so I’ll be taking a bit of a maternity break before starting the next season. But that doesn’t mean Monster of the Week will lie fallow! Keep an eye out for what should be a very cool bonus comic.”
Sympathy and lots of it. My pregnancies seem to run pretty close to nine and a half months (son eleven days late, daughter twelve days late) but it DOES come to an end. And I felt pretty much back to normal almost immediately afterwards and slept much better too. It’s nice to have one’s ribcage to oneself again…
I don’t know where they’re meant to be in the last frame, but I suspect it’s somewhere where the coffee would be horribly expensive, horrible, or both.
They’re immediately in front of the Lincoln Memorial looking down the mall towards the Capitol building. (The Capitol and the WWII memorial are not quite in scale, which might be throwing you off a bit.) There are often food trucks about down there which means they probably have nearby access to cheap but crappy coffee.
Good luck, Ms. Garrity (or is it Mrs.?) Please count me among those wishing you joy with the new junior mad scientist in your life.
Our Heroes may be down, but they are decidedly not out. Anasigma may have found a way to dissolve Skin Horse, but now they have to deal with all of them scattered through other parts of government. The bureaucracy may never recover. (U.N.I.T.Y. in any other sort of office is enough to give me shivers.)
“Awesome and Creepifying.” Indeed. And now the (former?) employees of Black Ops Social Services are at loose ends in the Nation’s Capitol. No good will come of this. . .
She’s not driving the drone in the way Nick did, she was installed in the drone by Doc Lee.
Maybe Nick can drive the water cooler now. On second thought, who would drink it if the water were dispensed with an accompanying sound of expectoration? Well, UNITY, but anyone else?
As I read this my alarm came in and the radio started playing Agnus Dei Op 11 from the beginning. Honestly one of the surealist moments I’ve had while reading a comic.
…I realize it’s completely unfounded, but I feel like Tip’s wearing mourning in this strip. Which is unlikely, given the top and sash/belt/thing he’s got on, but that’s what I’m partly convinced I’m seeing.

I feel like thats the only time she is saying what we are seeing
Hooray for punchlines with long buildups!

Heck, I was in D.C. today and didn’t see anything wrong with that.

Is this Shaenon’s subtle way of putting Skin Horse on hiatus until she’s recovered from having the baby?
Well the filename story hasn’t finished, so maybe not.

9 1/2 months? Oh dear.
It was a typo, but by now it feels like about 20 months.

I was meaning to ask, but couldn’t think of a polite way. Not that that’s stopped me before…
It’s a conspiracy!
They (the ones who live) move Project Skin Horse out of the way so they can safely draw the front lines and prepare the war.
But at least Unity and Bubbles finally have time for coffee!
I don’t know where they’re meant to be in the last frame, but I suspect it’s somewhere where the coffee would be horribly expensive, horrible, or both.

(TUNE: “You Belong To Me”, King, Stewart, & Price)
See the obelisk along The Mall,
See the monument so straight and tall,
See the office where they fired us all,
We’ll be back someday!
Seems a new job we don’t need to find,
Seems that shortly we’ll be reassigned,
Soon we’ll be back to the daily grind …
We’ll be back someday!
Just a little break, we’re not done,
While our Shaenon hatches one …
What fun!
Take a break for some maternity,
Then more comics we’ll be sure to see!
Sweetheart, Tip, Gavotte, and Unity …
They’ll be back someday!
It’s all well and good for Shaenon to take a break, but we still need your daily filk somewhere!
Good luck, Ms. Garrity (or is it Mrs.?) Please count me among those wishing you joy with the new junior mad scientist in your life.

She’s married but didn’t take her husband’s last name (Farago), so presumably “Ms” is the correct honorific to use.
Not necessarily. My mom uses her maiden name with “Mrs.”
Waiit. Skin Horse is in DC? That is both awesome and Creepifying.
I think they said Annex One is in Fairfax County.
Wait, really? I must have missed that, which is unfortunate, because I live there!
Likewise!
“Awesome and Creepifying.” Indeed. And now the (former?) employees of Black Ops Social Services are at loose ends in the Nation’s Capitol. No good will come of this. . .
Aren’t most federal agencies and suchlikes based in D.C.? (Actually asking)
Well, the ones that aren’t in Virginia . . .
And even those are more or less in the D.C. orbit.
… must … resist … awful pun … involving Tip and Artie …
–Dave, SHADOW GOV’T HAS BEE
Just figured they went to DC for a vacation, glad to see they brought Brita with them
Shouldn’t Bubbles return the drone before being reassigned?
She’s not driving the drone in the way Nick did, she was installed in the drone by Doc Lee.

Time skip! Fortunately this isn’t an anime, or we’d have to suffer through a bunch of bad filler. 🙂
What exactly makes you think we’re not MOMENTS away from bad filler? I feel filler coming on any moment now….
As I read this my alarm came in and the radio started playing Agnus Dei Op 11 from the beginning. Honestly one of the surealist moments I’ve had while reading a comic.
Hmmmm. A botched operation leading to the Control of Project Skin Horse to step down?
My Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy senses are tingling.
“Fixers” eh? Now there’s a vague yet menacing agency if ever I heard one.
Best of Luck Shaenon!

Seven years ago when I read this, I was just starting my own marriage.
Seven years later, I have just started raising my own son.
Changes in life can be hard, but they can also be truly beautiful.
