Tangentially related, am I the only one deeply disappointed with Iron Man 3 that Tony cured Pepper of Extremis completely instead of solving the explosion problem and leaving her with awesome flaming regeneration?
Did Tony cure her completely? The film was ambiguous. “I took care of that” could just mean “I stabilized her powers without removing them”. Granted, it seems more like leaving themselves a loophole just in case than an actual plan to have her show up again with flaming regeneration, but the loophole was left. We can still hope. π
I actually *assumed* the powers were left intact. I saw nothing to suggest otherwise, and it’s what the audience was primed with, as the whole premise was that Tony was kidnapped to do just that: Stabilize Extremis so augmented individuals could reap all of the benefits with none of the downsides.
Yeah, but the resemblance is only superficial, and besides, Natasha Stark is married, and to Captain America at that.
I do think that the visor is really cool. Not sure about going into combat with a handle on top of your head, though.
Or maybe it’s not that much of a coincidence, and I should assume that at any given time multiple friends of mine are writing about alternate-universe girl Iron Men.
I was reading the essay, and it looks like the site is lagging, maybe crashing a little? Not sure if my end, or high traffic of readers. But interesting from how far I got.
Hmmm, wasn’t somebody claiming yesterday that Dr Lee would have an advantage in knowing the tech better than RK? Looks like not so much…
Can someone enlighten me as to just why they’re fighting RK anyway? (Given that Nick could just jet ’em all back to SH and avoid the entire confrontation?) Do they just want to be dicks or something?
They have determined the Jersey Devils are normally not dangerous and that they were driven to aggressive behavior due to an Anasigma created device. Also that the rage spores emitted by the device can be countered by allergy meds. These discoveries have made them feel protective of the Devils. Red Knight wants to kill the Devils anyway. His motives are unclear but the general consensus is that he is an obnoxious person. Virginia wishes to demonstrate to him that his behavior can have unwished for consequences.
RK appears to be (a) prone to aggressive behaviour, and (b) heavily armed. Going anywhere near him wearing equipment you’d stolen from him could itself result in unwished-for consequences.
I’m sure Virginia has an excellent plan for how she’ll handle the first 10 seconds after he sees her, though.
“Sure is embarrassing, being so transparent…” Well, he does have those big probably-explosive-proof-glass window…come to think of it, why does he have them? Surely not to see through…
Errr…. so my impression from the other characters’ reactions last strip and this is that Dr. Lee looks stunningly attractive in the armor. But my impression of the armor is more “charmingly goofy”. Is this a failure on the part of my taste, or…?
But I’m a nerd who completely agrees Dr. Lee is a hot science lady. It’s just the armor part which doesn’t strike me as hot. (And it’s specifically this armor, took me five seconds to find cosplay photos of Pepper Potts as Rescue which do indeed strike me as hot.)
I agree, the armor isn’t what I’d call sexy. And we both know that the artist can and has drawn knock-down drop-dead attractive clothing, so I’m guessing “charmingly goofy” was the way she wanted to go. As to Dr. Lee’s admirers and their reactions–they have stars in their eyes. She could be wearing a trashcan and they’d still be falling at her feet π
It’s really hard to tell without hearing the tone of voice, but I’m getting distinct, “Yes that is absolutely what I was thinking it couldn’t possibly have been something even more embarrassing,” vibes from Nick’s last line. (I would have expected at least one wrongswear if he actually meant what he said there.)
Huh. My impression is that, yes, he was have mushy thoughts, but they definitely did NOT involve Natasha Stark or Earth-3490. I’m thinking therefore he was completely insincere, letting Dr. Lee’s wildly off explanation stand instead of explaining his true feelings.
Of course, I’m basing this on 1) my belief that he and the cobra both think Dr. Lee is super-hot in that armor, and I’ve already admitted elsewhere in these comments that I don’t agree, so maybe I just have no frakking clue what is going on in this strip; and 2) the suit she’s wearing looks nothing at all like the pictures of Iron Woman of Earth-3490 I found doing a web search this morning.
D’awwwwww!
At least she didn’t compare herself to Pepper Pots as ‘Rescue’ (or whatever the hael she called herself when wearing tin)
I was so amused in Iron Man 3 that Tony’s suit fits Pepper. I mean, she’s quite a lot taller.

Hi, I’m from the future. That was the best part of Endgame, MOOSE WAFFLES. So get your head out of your LIGHTSABER.
Extra credit to the colourist for the nicely tinted visor. Somebody chose their palette extra carefully today, didn’t they?
They’re so cute together…
She’s so good at teasing Nick.
He’s not even sarcastic in that last panel, is he? xD
Holy crap, that’s an actual thing.
Did Shaenon’s nerd cred just go way up, or did mine just go way down? I honestly can’t tell from here.
Yeah, but the resemblance is only superficial, and besides, Natasha Stark is married, and to Captain America at that.

This reference was Jeff’s, but by wild coincidence he sent me these scripts at the same time my friend Tea published the definitive essay on Natasha Stark: http://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/2016/05/07/natasha-stark-earth-3490-case-canon-genderswaps/

Is she actually called “Iron Man”?
Unfortunately Margaret Thatcher already took “Iron Lady”.

Judging by how he treated the giant lizard-people earlier, Red Knight regards all cryptids as monsters to be destroyed, full stop.
RK appears to be (a) prone to aggressive behaviour, and (b) heavily armed. Going anywhere near him wearing equipment you’d stolen from him could itself result in unwished-for consequences.

She has something that she’s pretty sure is a gun that she can probably shoot!
Those alternate-universe comics get so carried away the further you get from the point of origin…
“Sure is embarrassing, being so transparent…” Well, he does have those big probably-explosive-proof-glass window…come to think of it, why does he have them? Surely not to see through…
They come standard on that whirligig model.
Perhaps he’s part of the most transparent administration in history.
His passengers might want to see out.

They’re huge nerds and she’s a hawt science lady wearing nerd armor XD
But I’m a nerd who completely agrees Dr. Lee is a hot science lady. It’s just the armor part which doesn’t strike me as hot. (And it’s specifically this armor, took me five seconds to find cosplay photos of Pepper Potts as Rescue which do indeed strike me as hot.)
Personal tastes differ
I have to admit that her visor is pretty sexy.
I thought “very cute” rather than “sexy”, but YMMV

It’s an above-the-waist, face-forward comic, for the most part. Nick and the others have a much better look at the tiny butt covers.
Hitty says that she looks like a princess, which might just mean a heavily armored princess. And Nick and Alfie have huge crushes on her already.
Natasha’s the one who solved Civil War by marrying Steve, right? Or was that regular male Tony in a fanfic I read?

My impression was that he’s completely sincere, and those WERE the completely embarrassing mushy thoughts he was having.

Oh yeah, definitely.
You look like… a recolor of Curly Brace
Overall, I don’t think there’s much resemblance, but she does look like this picture to me: http://zonzonzonbi.tumblr.com/post/31080281050/heres-my-iron-womannatasha-stark-costume-i-made
Also, I think Dr. Lee does look pretty hot in this costume when seen from the waist up, but the pants/butt-cover kinda ruin the effect.
Aaaw, nerds in love. π
Dr Lee just keeps getting more adorkable.
I haven’t seen/heard “horse feathers” used in a while. I think the last time I saw it was in one of the Dresden Codak one-off stories.
“Horsefeathers”? Do I detect an Atomic Robo reference or is that a more common replacement curse word than I’ve been believing.
Itβs the mortifying ordeal of being known.
