I thing it was a worst case scenario simulatio designed to drive people fully mad so they can study them, because like Beta said braking through is a traumatic event and most mads destroy everything for miles around. That’s why they do it safely in a simulation.
Unforunately for them, Sweetheart is just too pesimistic for it to have an effect on her, so I expect those running the simulation to go mad.
“I always figured the end of the world would be my fault” apparently It’s easier to drive her insane thru bad spelling and grammar than global extinction events, she is already emotionally prepared for the extinction event and it being her fault.
So their data is out of date or incomplete, or both. We can maybe use that to figure out how they’re getting it. Their source had to be present for Gavotte’s sexing herself stupid and quite possibly hasn’t been present since, and also clearly wasn’t present for the “pork” scenario (which happened in the field).
This may not be Gavotte: it may be a Goldbug simulation, Goldbug inserting itself into another entity’s simulation, another entity inserting itself into Goldbug’s simulation, Gavotte’s daughter Pavane, another unknown daughter (possibly related to Gavotte’s dumbing down?), some unrelated/previously unknown swarm mentality, or a combination of two or more of these possibilities.
Yellowstone seems to be in the scientific press a lot lately. First, a scary little map of the likely distribution of the ash layer after an eruption; then the discovery of a second, bigger magma chamber under the first one. Nothing about a seam of special magma-igniting coal yet, happily.
“We’ve been fighting a losing battle …. for fifteen years, but I never thought I’d see the final face-off in my lifetime. And I never dreamed, that it would turn out to be the bees. They’ve always been our friend.” — A little appropos quote from The Swarm. It loses something without Michael Caine saying it.
I feel that someone has to make this reference, so I might as well bite the bullet. “No, not the bees, not the bees! They’re in my eyes, my eyes! Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh!”
I feel dirty inside.
What are the odds that Gavotte is just using obfuscating stupidity, and this is her managing to invade the simulation to help break Sweetheart out of it?
And here I assumed it was ASig screwing with her head, and Goldbug just had a vested interest in it. This is actually Goldbugs idea of THERAPY?

“I always figured the end of the world would be my fault” – and that is not on a t-shirt, why exactly?
Welp… She may have just passed evil scientist sanity test. Blow up the world? Meh. Incorrect spelling? DESOTRY ALL PAPERS!
Sounds about the average thought process and logic of most mad scientists.
Gavotte!
That is my immediate reaction!
As a mad scientist creation, you’d think she’d learnt not to tempt fate by now.
Gavotte is still dumb? Daaaaang.
it might be the simulation getting her wrong, like it did with nick

Personally I’m kinda hoping that she admits her feelings to herself at the end of this.
Maybe Goldbug is Gavotte’s daughter swarm.
Apparently there are some bugs in the simulation…
Thumbs up.
Why did Sweetheart figure the end of the world would be her fault? Besides, it isn’t. It wasn’t her fault the door was defective and wouldn’t close.
Welcome back, Mme. Gavotte…if that is you…

And it plays a big role in a series I’m currently reading.

Was that from buzzfeed?
Huh, so that’s where the bees Obama told everyone not to worry about came from.
What are the odds that Gavotte is just using obfuscating stupidity, and this is her managing to invade the simulation to help break Sweetheart out of it?
