I realize it’s been years, but reading back through some strips and seeing this, I feel compelled to reply.
I don’t think she’s referring to a specific war or a war called “Old War”, etc, but rather the “old” concept of war. IE, she wishes she could just shoot them all and be done with it.
It’s slightly eerie how much Unity’s hat-with-a-chomp out of it looks like Kaban-chan’s signature chapeau in *Kemono Friends*, even though this storyline is nearly a decade too early for it to be a reference.
I’m new in these worlds, but given the way artists shout out to each other I would not be surprised if the “signature chapeau” is a reference to Unity’s hat.

Agreed. The words are not capitalized in General Sal’s comment, so she is just talking about plain old war – i.e. warfare.
To put it another way, “plain old” is an idiom. She’s saying “(plain old) war”, not “plain (old war)”.
