It’s actually a common misconception. Even though variants of the genus subucula such as “hotpants” and “underpants” contain “pants” in their common name, they cannot properly be considered part of the same clade. So it’s technically incorrect to call what the drone is wearing in today’s strip “pants”.
In fact, while Donald Duck wears neither pants nor shorts of any kind, he does in fact wear what is properly classified as a kind of gaff or dance belt underneath his feathers. With male duck performers, such an undergarment is key due to the labyrinthine biology of their reproductive system. So in all truth it is optimally accurate to call this a Donald Duck outfit, since the drone is dressed identically to Donald Duck but for the lack of feathers.
Keep your pants on, Sweetheart, we don’t want to see.
Maybe you’ve got one or maybe thirty-three.
Maybe it’s a codpiece or it could be real.
Keep your pants on, Sweetheart, it’s got no appeal.
Actually, the only thing remotely close that Bubbles was seen wearing was on the ship, and that was after she and Unity broke up. And even that really wasn’t very much like this outfit. Other than that, Bubbles was always in spring and summer dresses, and none of them looked anything like this. There were also a few business suits, and none of them looked anything like this either.
Hopeless, unshaven, dissatisfied with his job… sounds like a, uhm, “normal” person. At this rate Tip will not be able to perceive that Sweetheart’s speech in a few days. Which should give him a lead on tracking down the cause of the reality blindness, maybe able to sense The Weird with only his Left ear and eye.
“When everyone is weird, the man with one normal eye is king. A poorly dressed king.”
Panel two there’s a weird line between “woman” and “wants”- it looks kind of like a text caret, except SH is clearly hand-lettered. A mystery…?
There is also another small error which is that there appears to be some sort of unseeable terror in panel three which cannot be looked directly at without damaging the soul, which might need to be addressed.
Possibly it could be that the word “woman” was placed slightly too far right, and got photoshopped a pixel or two to the left to correct it in a hurry, but the background layer was set to black instead of white by accident and it didn’t get noticed?
I was thinking that, too, since it’s a perfectly straight line. A hand-drawn line — even using a straight edge — couldn’t be that perfect. It might be that it was transparent when it was shifted, and only turned black when it was uploaded.
Niue is gonna love it. Sailors and parrots are like two peas in a pod.
She’d have loved the hat though.
HE WASN’T WEARING IT BEFORE SO SHE HATES IT!
Considering how many people (myself included) have a thing for certain types of school_girl_ outfits, this is strangely appropriate somehow…
Indeed. But to be perfectly honest, I’d much rather see it on a schoolgirl. On that drone, it’s just all kinds of wrong.
Sweetheart’s instincts are the Village People?
Or Donald Duck.
She put on Pants this time, so not him.
I was thinking of some sort of Goblin porn stripper, but Village People could be the inspiration.
Possibly Sailor Bubba. ^_^
No helping Tip now, eh.
If after seeing this he is not moved to correct this, i wonder what will put him out from this slump.
Sweetheart’s comment in the last panel reminds me of every puppet master subsuming their identity…
Oh yeah,no problem. Great outfit…….if you’re Donald Duck!
Except Donald doesn’t wear pants…

Good thing Sweetheart-drone is. I still don’t know whether that’s a codpiece or not.
And we don’t want to know, either.

It’s the male version of Bubbles’s outfit. The thing that she was wearing when Unity was dating her.
Really, I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Ah, that makes sense.
Excellent observation. I was too traumatized by the fourth panel to attempt any analysis, though I doubt I would have ever noted that w/o help.

Oh, dear. Tip may be beyond help at this point.
So does this mean that Sweetheart is ready to go out and punish Negaverse Generals “In The Name Of The Moon”? o_O
“Pretty Soldier Sailor Sweetheart”? Hm. That actually kinda works.
Oh, Sweetheart — once Niue even sees that (or any) hat, taking it off won’t help…

That is such a lovely notion that I hope you are correct! It would be like Tip to have such an idea in mind. ^.^
Sweetheart oughta be punished for this. Where’s that ol’ rolled-up newspaper?
Consumed in the volcano… along with Captain Bram.
Sweetheart, that’s not how instincts work.
Y’know, when we first saw this drone I thought, “It looks like Fred from Scooby Doo.”
It also looks a lot like how Shaennon draws Fox Mulder in Monster of the Week.
And of course, she draws Fox almost identically to how she draws Konstantin in this comic.

OK, I don’t know whether to laugh or cringe.
