It’s a reference to a quote from Socrates: “The unexamined life is not worth living.” It basically means a life that includes a search for understanding and truth through thoughtful self-reflection and philosophy.
More generally, an “unexamined life” means just coasting along and existing, with no thought of what you’re doing with your life, or what effect your actions will have on yourself and others.
Most of his internal monologues have been his delusions of how he thinks he affects others. But he’s so self-absorbed that he has very little idea of how he actually affects others.
It’s only been very recently that he has begun taking a real honest look inside himself.
Nick: (to Tip & Baron) “Sorry about your winning streak, guys. It was just too conspicuous.”
Tip: “You didn’t have anything to do with our all-in “break the bank” loss, did you?”
Nick: (sardonic grin)
I’m like 80% sure Baron has insulted people by calling them yahoos before, but this is the first time I realized the “oh right, HE’S A HORSE(ish)” bit.
Of course, Bubbles is basically the polar opposite of Baron von Hornymist here.
But with the reality blindness, Baron might not be able to gamble at all. Then again, he and Tip are probably only interested in the girly shows anyway.
The others could just leave them there as another decoy while they continue on their way.
Important decision for Sweetheart: Can mission success be achieved by dropping Tip and Baron Neckbeard off at the Little Elvis Wedding Palace, then getting out of town before the bats swarm?
You just have to find common ground.
Not exactly sure what “unexamined” means i. This context.

Now, to be fair, Tip puts a LOT of thought into his effect on others.

Oh no, I certainly didn’t mean to imply that his thoughts about his effects on others were accurate, or healthy for himself or others.
Awesome! You had me sold at “just coasting along”.
Voltroned up is such a great turn of phrase.
Annnd with that, goes any chance of this operation going smoothly.
You held out hope this long? You’re impressively optimistic.
That comment just goes perfectly with your avatar!
Doesn’t want to learn crap? Then stay away from the craps tables when you get to Vegas.
If he already knows it, then he doesn’t need to learn it though.
This had better end with Tip and Baron blacking out and waking up married.
As much as I despise Tip, I wouldn’t wish that on him. Unless, of course, you just meant “married” but not “married to each other”.
Wait. Shouldn’t agreeing with Tip give Baron pause?
The Baron is quite unprejudiced towards other people as long as they are telling him what he wants to hear (and no longer).

And behind him, Dr. Lee is counting the cash she got from betting against them.
Tip and Baron both have their hidden depths—which isn’t to say that their surface personalities aren’t awful.
I’m like 80% sure Baron has insulted people by calling them yahoos before, but this is the first time I realized the “oh right, HE’S A HORSE(ish)” bit.
I wonder which will get the worst of this – Skin Horse or Las Vegas?
Well, a group of them (including Dr. Lee) once survived Atlantic City, but, then, they had Olympia “Bubbles” Waters with them.
Of course, Bubbles is basically the polar opposite of Baron von Hornymist here.

Personally, I think Tip should be ashamed of putting his desire for a side trip to Vegas ahead of the mission.
It’s pretty bad when Baron Mistycorn’s devotion to duty is greater than yours – and you are the one corrupting him!
