Should I be worried that I find these two completely adorable?

If Gibbs can get his boat out of his basement Mike can get his steam shovel out of his.

You should read Kingdom Keepers sometime. It’s this book about the Magic Kingdom’s characters coming to life. The Small World dolls are minions for the villains in the first book, and a great deal scarier than the PotC pirates.

I know it won’t work this way, but I want this to be the last structure standing in an abandoned amusement park, still running (perhaps powered by a fusion pie of some sort). As it is, it is probably hiding in plain sight, a creeping horror at the heart of one of the most popular tourist destinations on Earth.

Even though the rhythm doesn’t quite mesh, I am hearing the World of Love Song to the tune of the chorus of Yellow Submarine.

(TUNE: “It’s A Small World”, Sherman & Sherman)

It’s a song of sweetness, a song of joy,
Made for ev’ry girl and for ev’ry boy!
Sing of love, ’round the world,
    ‘Til your breakfast you’ve hurled!
And it’s in an endless loop!

     [CHORUS:]
      Singing in an endless loop,
Feel your eyelids start to droop,
’Til your brains have turned to poop!
      It’s an end-less loop!

Hear the puppets sing, see the puppets dance,
‘Til your mind dissolves and you soil your pants!
    All your synapses fried,
And you wish that you’d died!
And it’s in an endless loop!
     [repeat CHORUS]

If you’re at the California park, Space Mountain may still be out of service. Something about state safety inspectors not being happy with that and two other rides.
On the bright side, that leaves you more time for It’s a Small World!

World of Love Song scans to both “Greensleeves” and “The Theme from Gilligan’s Island”.

It scans to “It’s a Small World,” too. They’re all in ballad meter. Someone’s been reading XKCD.

I can’t see how it could fit Greensleeves unless you stretch the second line out a lot.

We need to know the intended tune before we can establish if it is Greensleeves-complete.

That World of Love song never ends
It just goes on and on my friends
The puppets starting singing it in spite of every plea
Of those who had to listen ever-loooping, ‘cause you’ll see…

So I suppose that the ‘cast’ of Little House are sapient or something…? This will be interesting!

    April 15, 2013, 5:19 pm | # | Reply

Hmmm, I’m trying to remember all we’ve learned about the Old War. I’m pretty sure the swamp said something about it. Gavotte and Mustachio know, of course, but Gavotte is being oblique as usual and Mustachio’s memory drum of the war is conveniently missing. That leaves one other client who talked of it, at Tip’s count of three clients including GODOT, but I can’t for the life of me remember who. Does rampaging Mustachio count?

And quoting GODOT, ‘Once upon a time the world was round and the futurist saw colors going round and round. He built a little house to make his little daughter smile, and there were dogs, cows, wild pigs, rabbits, cats, lizards, and secrets. In that house is the last memory of the Old War. They will both die soon.’

That both is interesting, as it could refer to any number of things – Collodi and his daughter, the house and his daughter, and the interpretation that seemed most likely at the time, the house and the secrets it holds. Of course, since the video was taken in the 1960s, it’s pretty likely the house is in worse condition now, which could relate to the fall of it GODOT was talking about. Maybe it had a built in time limit. Of course, GODOT didn’t seem to know much about the house at all, so one must take what he said with a grain of salt.

There’s also the fact that the actual /purpose/ of the House is still rather ambiguous. Considering that it was built by a madman, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was both a superweapon and an intended sanctuary for his daughter.

And there. I’ve got all my theories out.

HT talked about the old war, I think (??) but obviously never to Tip. Did the sapient swamp or her daughter ever mention it?

      • Katrika
        April 15, 2013, 9:54 pm | # | Reply

Hmmmm… if he mentioned it, he probably talked to Sweetheart, and she would have shared that information during the group meetings. Lemme look to see what was said!

        • Katrika
          April 15, 2013, 10:21 pm | # | Reply

Mustachio did indeed mention the old war! ‘Your wants are immaterial. You are on the cusp of obsolescence. When the old war comes anew, you will fall to the created ones.’ This seems to pretty strongly suggest the Old War was between the creators – or at least humanity – and the created. This fits with the themes we’ve explored so far, and the mounting tensions in the comic.

HT /did/ talk about a coming war with Sweetheart, but made no mention to her of an ‘old war’. So that leaves the Cypress…

The Cypress told the team not to let Venus provoke a fight, because ‘it ain’t the Old War no more.’ When pressed, she said it was a tale for another time.

…and that’s all I’ve got right now. Sorry it’s not more substantial!

          • Reb
            April 15, 2013, 11:57 pm | #

No, that’s great. I’d count the Cypress, she wasn’t any less vague than the others. I was remembering wrong about HT I guess. But that’s at least three counting Mustachio and Gavotte.

I have to be honest, I’m wondering if Gavotte is entirely on the level. There’s a lot of agendas at work here, I’m wondering if she’s trying to avoid a coming war or facilitate one or keep the status quo or what. Too many conspiracies in one comic will make you paranoid.

*GODOT, not Gavotte in the first paragraph.

Whoever built this thing either had a skull filled with marshmallow fluff or was the worst sadist in recorded history. No middle of the road.

And why is U.N.I.T.Y. grooving on this? I would have experected her to be first in line with the flamethrowers. (This would not be a bad thing.)

And as for Katrika, thank you for taking something too saccharine and giving a proper level of chills to balance it out. Bless you.

It’s a world of slaughter, a world of tears
Its a world of secrets, a world of fear
    Prejudices we share
    Now its time we’re aware
We all live in a world of love.

We all live in a world of love,
We all live in a world of love,
We all live in a world of love,
    Love for you and me.

There is just one moon and one golden sun,
Whether forged or flesh, shared by everyone.
    So we mindwipe the past
    For the treaty must last
We all live in a world of love.

I was trapped in the ‘Its a Small World’ ride as a child. The ride broke down. The boats stopped moving. But the dolls… they just kept singing. Over and over and over and over and over and over.. They just wouldn’t stop!!!! Trapped, with no way out, surrounded by their soulless eyes. Staring. Mocking. Why won’t they stop? Why won’t they go away? Sometimes I still hear them singing in my nightmares, so loud you can barely even hear the screams. S͙͓͇o͞m̜͉̙̜͍̪̹e͍͚̮̜̳͢times I eve̻̻̺n̸̜̮̺̲̭ ̬͈̣̟̲s̩̤i̡̜̳̜͍̗͎n͖͇̬̳ͅg̰̕ along.

What’s the SOP if you actually like things like this? Because, like, animatronics and clowns and shit, it’s all designed to transform effort and energy and raw materials into something that children can enjoy. To me that’s a high form of good. One of the highest.

I just kinda hate how fun things for kids is a whole genre of horror, I guess…
