Hmmm! OK, cancel the “Ginny was the one who got Cyborged” theory. New hypothesis: In this universe either Ginny-2 was more ethical then her counterpart and used an AI instead of a human brain or else Nick-2 ran into a group of friendly Sparks who rescued him from being a borg and gave him a flesh and blood body again.
In other words, St Charlie could rebuild him. They had the technology! ^_~
Alas, it’s more likely that when he refused to be in the program they just used the “Buttermilk pancakes” failsafe and took his free-will away. Ginny in the home Narboniverse said she considered it worse than death (and so refused to use it)…….but we’ve seen how effective it was at dealing with Violet Bee in bomb-mode…….
I actually like this theory. Three guesses as what body they would use. One hint: Nick publicly curses the use of this while dressing up as a princess in private.
Meanwhile a broken water cooler in their old building mourns the loss of dreams . . . 🙁
It’s worse than “parroting stuff off the internet” – the AI’s currently appearing to be little more than a speech recognition interface for WIkipedia…
…we haven’t yet seen sufficient extracts to see whether it ignores footnotes or adds “See footnote x” at appropriate intervals…
Not just Wikipedia — *our history’s* Wikipedia. If you go back to, say, 2012, the start of that disambiguation node is quite different. (Actually you have to go back to one entry after the start of 2012 to evade some probable teenager’s vandalism.)
So whatever else has been going on in this postapocalyptic hellscape, Wikipedia is *just* the same. Which is really creepy: how detacted from reality are those Wikipedians, anyway? Have they really not noticed the new animal dictatorship?
Wikipedia ceased being controlled by its human interfaces years ago. Anyone online who claims to be a Wikipedia editor is either lying or a computer simulation.
Hmmm…an A.I. who is not very well developed, which when confronted with a non-sequitur, reverts to Wikipedia references. Take that, and put it in control of an armed helicopter. Sure, what could go wrong.
“Nick” is a disambiguation node, giving an alphabetical list of entries. They could wait until he/it got to Zerhakker, or just ask “Are you Nick Zerhakker, or do you know what happened to him?”
I actually haven’t seen Thor 2.
I thought the term of art was “wrongswear.” 😉

I’m more inclined to believe that Goldbug didn’t interfere, and the Personality portion was wiped out as the end of the KS story Homunculus implies….
Don’t know why people are resisting this idea. Even without the KS story, this was the end goal of his project.
Any half wit engineer can install guns on a vehicle, Unity. Teaching one to wrongswear takes a miracle of maladjustment. Takes the swearing anyday.
Yeah, Unity, it’s not like it’s Canada

Ooops, a technical foul and missed opportunity in one!
Maybe Nick downloaded it all before the apocalypse…
Wikipedia ceased being controlled by its human interfaces years ago. Anyone online who claims to be a Wikipedia editor is either lying or a computer simulation.
Wikipedia is still a free encyclopedia that anyone can edit, but nobody has survived attempting an edit for years.
Somebody must be editing the obituary page, ’cause new ones are always popping up.
I take it back…it hasn’t updated in a couple days, despite some celebrity deaths…
Oh, Nick, Nick, what did they do to you? I mean, what *else* did they do to you, besides taking away your manhood and that whole brain-in-a-box thing…
He’s become Nikibear!
Hmmm…an A.I. who is not very well developed, which when confronted with a non-sequitur, reverts to Wikipedia references. Take that, and put it in control of an armed helicopter. Sure, what could go wrong.
Gonna call it right there… there’s no human brain in this one.
That would be a relief! However, in the Narboniverse, relief not the rule. Maybe Moustachio is the brain?

That could take most of the trip to California!
