It’s a person-to-person call. All the telephone operators at the carriers and relay carriers have been replaced by machines, because they can transcribe conversations better.
Speaking of embedded commands, what was stuck in Nick’s brain? Can he lose connection to his airplane body? That would be like in “Airplane” where Tip has to take control of landing.
We know “buttermilk pancakes” does something, and it’s the same code that was used to override the drone’s self-destruct. I think the general suspicion is that we saw the effects in the Mirror storyline.
I suspect that “buttermilk pancakes” is the shutdown command for any of Virginia’s creations – Nick and Unity included. That’s why she hung up on Nick and told Unity to cover her ears before she used it to deactivate Violet.
But it also makes me wonder… is there also a command that intensifies Unity’s aggression patterns? Or puts Nick into full-on Annihilate Mode?
…you drew Artie on the package. On the -package-. Why did you draw Artie on the -package-?! I can never throw it away now! I’ll have to cut the Artie out… and put it in a little picture frame… and hang it… you know what, this is an awesome idea, thanks for the Artie!
…I have read The Discontent of winter dozens, DOZENS of times, and only -now- do I notice the Diamond Is Unbreakable reference. o.O;
I know, right?! I’ve been a fan since the first OAV series, used to have a ton of the untranslated manga, and I am just sort of perpetually happily confused that it finally took off and people know what I’m babbling about.
Well, if the coal seam fire is going, things could get kinda hot.
“Something big?” You mean _besides_ the reality blindness plague?
Maybe the reality blindness is just preparation for something bigger.
I still say the weird weather is A-Sig’s next move. After this, scarily, they’ll move on to something bigger and more overt.
Come on, Nick, you knew better than to say “Blueberry waffles” out loud.
(In front of Unity, that is.)
Under the circumstances, what could be better than that?
Isn’t this a personal connection between Nick and Ginny? Albeit, not as personal as Nick would like it.
Yes. She’s his mother.
Did you mean the phone line?
It’s a person-to-person call. All the telephone operators at the carriers and relay carriers have been replaced by machines, because they can transcribe conversations better.
you should NOT have said that over the phone.
When do boys ever listen to the women?
All too often.

And if we ever get to the level of “Orange Chocolate Scones” may god have mercy on our souls

If there is, to be that horrible, I’ll bet it’s scrumptious.
It’s gotta be Rooty Tooty Fresh and Fruity
Hopefully her creations have an embedded GPS to never enter a Waffle House or IHOP.
It’s IHOb now.
Does Nick even have controls? Can anyone take control of landing if he were deactivated, or would it just be a complete power failure?
Ewww!
Oh, wait, you said ‘blueberry waffles”. My bad.
The books came! Thank you Shaenon!

I just hope auto-fill didn’t give Shaenon my incorrect address again…
Ah, glad you got it!
I wrote that story long before I could even imagine that Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure would someday be popular.

Time to tear off the ears, Unity.
