Yup! This feels like Nick has developed since the split and Aimee .. I don’t want to say “hasn’t”, necessarily … but at the very least has developed differently.
This is, of course, something Shaenon’s fond of exploring, as seen with all the Daves in Narbonic.
wait If you are in a video game instead of playing a video game the old fashion way with controllers couldn’t you just find a way to play it yourself by inserting your code body into the game cause you are like the god of that world? am I making sense cause I think I blew my own mind with this line of thought.
Nick said he wasn’t able to take over a program and win the game in the VR Whimsey World, so likely Aimee wouldn’t be able to, either. (Don’t ask me for precision here; gaming is something I’ve never done more than a handful of times.)
I can easily see a few potential problems with that.
The first is that it would be a very different experience, and in a way video games are nothing but the experience. There are even people who avoid ports and remasters because they’re not the same.
Second is that god modes can get boring quickly. I’d imagine this to be particularly true for games like Resident Evil.
It was established long ago that Nick could pretty much do exactly that when playing video games. When the others (I don’t remember who, specifically) found out that he was able to do that all along, they were rather upset, because that meant that Nick had been letting them win.
That, and they have been rather busy in general. That’s why Nick had to multi-task rescuing Tip while um… “interfacing with Dr. Lee”, as you discreetly put it.
The fact that she has no idea what’s going on outside indicates another shortcoming of this virtual world…could at least put a little camera on the outside of the mainframe.
Well, if the knowledge does her no good (due to the whole “unable to affect the outside world” thing) I suppose she’s better off not knowing what sort of Impending Doom is impending.
Something tells me that they are already on RE5, if only for the fact they are playing co-op. (that or Amee modded one of the earlier games to be co-op)
notice she said replay
So what’s your point? That she obviously played them all already?
Well YEAH! You need to refresh your mind about all the weird crap that went on in previous iterations so you can PROPERLY enjoy the latest release!
Which is why I read Narbonic and Li’l Mell every day before this comic, to make certain that I am not missing anything ; )
He was a brain in a tank before, playing video games in his own personal video game. Course, he didn’t KNOW that…

I interpreted it as” Why are you holding a controller when you could be doing this holodeck style?”
I originally wanted to have some discussion about how they could be actually getting stomped by a giant woman, but I ran out of space.
But even when he learned the truth, his initial response was “Do I give a rat’s ass?”
I’m in! 🙂
And speaking of Brain clones, why haven’t we seen any evidence of the one Nick copy and two Baron copies? There were two right?
Two Baron’s?
No! Oh God No!
Three Barons. Two copies, plus the original.
Is that the Baron as a beautiful high stepping unicorn in the Whimsey virtual reality?
Yes. http://skin-horse.com/comic/after-all-the/
From what I recall, those guys ended up in one of the printed stories for the books.

new one has…tol vampire lady.
I suppose Nick hasn’t had that much interest in interfacing with the games since he started interfacing with Dr. Lee.

By the way, nice T-shirts. “Hack Your Own Brain,” and “Lo-Tek.” Cute. And the way Lovelace’s tongue sticks out the side of her mouth…adorable…

You say that as if she would even want to know what’s going on outside.

Well, it’s not like Aimee can affect her own delivery from inside the server. Might as well have some fun while waiting.
I’m wondering whether Lovelace is Aimee’s guest – or prisoner?
Something tells me that they are already on RE5, if only for the fact they are playing co-op. (that or Amee modded one of the earlier games to be co-op)
I am pleased that Aimee and Lovelace found something to bond over.
