Nick is one of those characters I’d like to give a big cup of cocoa, a hug, and information for several therapists and psychiatrists. He’s a hilarious and endearing mess
Even if Nicks wanted to got that route as a gamer I’m a little concerned that it didn”t occur to them to have Beta Nick just be the one who checks for ambushes and traps. Doing enough of that would be self-terminating enough for *anyone’s* taste. @_@
“If I asked your brother which one to shoot, what would he say?” No, that’ll only work if one of them always lies and the other always tells the truth…
Zerhakker has left a paper trail
From Washington to Carbondale.
But Nick has only been unfurled
And brought to life in Future World—
What a crazy tail!
But they’re brothers,
Identical brothers, very odd.
A pair of duplicate copies,
Like as two peas in a pod.
Zerhakker adores his cyber porn,
His online games and Doctor Lee.
But Nick is mint fresh from the file,
Of habits bad there’s nothing vile.
What a wild idea!
Still, they’re brothers,
Identical brothers, what a thrill.
They scowl alike, they think alike,
Sometimes they even sync alike—
Baron M. can shoot at will,
When brothers come out of the mill…
It’s a saved copy of Nick from about 10 seconds ago, so they’ll both use fairly commonplace euphemisms instead.
It would be bad to kill the copy if (as it appears) the original is going to rely on this save point at some point in the future. That said, causality’s pretty flexible here, so the next bit doesn’t have to play out in exactly the same way as in the copy’s timeline. As such, it may not matter which of them Baron kills.
Of course, it probably will do if Nick persuades him to shoot him in the face.
It matters if the original is still connected to Nick’s real brain, while the other is entirely virtual.
Of course, if they’re both connected to Nick’s brain then killing one of them is a complete non-issue, and in fact would probably be a good idea to do as soon as possible.
Once again, reality has the poor taste to ruin a perfectly good dramatic moment. How dare it interrupt the Baron’s soliloquy! It would have been on par with the Bard, too.
“Look, stop worrying and shoot yourself in the face!”
I wonder if another Aimee was created also… or was this already discussed.
This isn’t the first time one of these strips felt like it belonged in Mad Magazine’s “Scenes We’d Like to See.”
I’m… a little disturbed at Nick’s willingness to not only kill his Data Clone, but also his Data Clone’s willingness to BE terminated.
I wonder what it says about him. Or Aimee.
Especially considering how painful the effect appears to be.

Right in the FACE! best borderlands quest ever.

Excellent trope subversion here.
So excellent that when I went to add it to the page, I found that someone had already done so.
I’ve got it. Ask each of them to swear. The one that doesn’t use dubbed-in euphemisms is the duplicate.

Maybe you’re weighing the moral pros and cons but let me assure you that OH MY GOD SHOOT ME IN THE GODDAMNED FACE!! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!?!
“Time was, he’d have just shot us both.”
“It’s progress.”
“Congratulations! You have achieved: Better person than ZAPP BRANNIGAN. Your award of one stale Nabisco wafer will be waiting for you at the exit!”
The cookie is a lie too?

Do we have to get rid of 2Nick? Might he continue to exist after this whole Whimsy adventure? Perhaps the convenient bodyless AI will weigh in.
