No reason to be, they’re just trying to get to the Necropolis in the graveyards of Colma.
It means that Artie didn’t engineer Tip ditching in an attempt to kidnap Ginny, which was my first suspicion.
Another classic by The Zombies, “Time of the Season”:
Why the phlox are we fighting?
(I can’t) I cannot say
When you schlorped my cerebrum
(You took) You took away
My potty mouth
So now I cannot tell you
What is wrong.
I really want to yell. You
Are unkind, for no reason
So bite me!
What’s my deal with the chopper? (It’s so) It’s so obscure I’m his mom, I’m his doctor (What else?) What else? Not sure He’s my best friend But still he drives me crazy Drunk or not The picture is so hazy It’s a crime how I tease him I’m guilty
Sex, Love, – both fit the grammar and conversation for both sentences. Relationships sorta fits but is a stretch. Relations or congress would also fit (thinking on that gives a new spin on Washington politics).
I think adding ‘-ing’ would be required for your option to better fit both statements.
Wow, a three-filk day, and one with a long guitar solo!
In panel two, it really looks like two different words are translated into Phlox. If the first is the second but with an “-ing” suffix, as Robert the Addled suggests, then it works, but it still feels like we’re missing something.
This calls for Klatchian coffee. Dark, no sugar.
Will that take her from a drunk nerd to a dren knurd?
Are you sure you actually want Ginny knurd?
Does Klatchian Coffee make SRMD better or worse?
If Girl Genius is any indication, worse, much worse.
Worse… Or better?
Klatchian coffee was totally my first thought! But then I thought, ‘Nah, that’s way to obscure.’
Haha! So happy to be proven wrong! 😀
Around here you will never be so obscure as to be singular. Not everyone will get it, but someone always will.
And THAT my friends – is part of the joy of Internet – somebody, somewhere – groks you.
I’m just waiting for that to work out to someone grokking me in the Biblical sense…
“Beyond Sober” sounds like a name for a band.
That as a band name makes me try to imagine ‘freak out the senses’ music of a lovecraft-giger nature or some such.
I can’t help but feel a little worried about the change in scenery…

@Dave: Yeah, that doesn’t look like a hotel. And Ginny didn’t get her scrip of passage….

And that Gear of Plot turns another notch….
Judging from the tombstones, they’re heading back to the “job site”.
Everybody knows that the knurd is the word …
(TUNE: “Freebird”, Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Nick can’t even swear right, Art!
He said phlox right in my ear!
Seems we’re letting a fight start;
What about, though, isn’t clear!
My emotions are stirred, now,
By this disembodied brain …
‘Cause I need to be knurd now
So this nerd I can explain …
Knurd, so nerd I can explain!
[insert 47-minute Guitar Hero solo]
Thanks a lot eddurd! A quick check of the strip turned into a 50 min. musical interlude…
There’s complicated, and then there’s really complicated.
Ginny and Nick? Whole ‘nother level.
I think we’d all need the Klatchian coffee to untangle it. (Or maybe just force feed it to the principals.)
oh no! Anything but potty mouth!
To the tune of “It’s not easy being me” from the movie Popeye
It’s not easy bein’ Lee,
Even though she’s cute and science-y,
Her life ain’t so carefree,
It’s not easy bein’ Lee.
Oh, it’s very had to work,
For those Anasigma jerks,
Though it’s a real perk to work,
It’s not easy bein’ Lee.
It’s not easy bein’ Lee,
Talk with Nick drives her crazy,
So complicated now, you see?
It’s not easy bein’ Lee.
She altered Nick,
Did stick his brain in a helicopter,
Now he’s bricked cause she made it,
So that he can’t swear.
It’s not easy bein’ Lee,
Is this what the fight’s about really?
Or is it something else maybe?
It’s not easy bein’ Lee.
It’s not easy bein’ Lee.
These filks should be collected into an album. 🙂 Yes, I know albums are out of style right now.
Erm… Could someone translate for Nick? It seems like the cuss being censored is important to understanding the strip, and I guess I don’t cuss enough…
It’s fuck, isn’t it?

He can probably say Love.

Agreed.
