I wouldn’t call it the von Zinzer effect. He learned fairly early on the wisdom of closed lips.
Peirson probably is Mad, since I was under the impression that everyone other than Tip on this team was supposed to be already Mad, to negate the effect of the Cypress driving team members insane.
Although death traps – even ones with awesome names like “eyeball razor chimps” – are not necessarily the product of Mad science.
So, Peirson is right, and the sweaters are a red herring. Phillips never was Phillips, but just the catalyst to get them to kill off their own members.
Given Shaenon & Jeff’s penchant for elaborate setups, it must be significant as well as deliberate. It wouldn’t surprise me if the one-off binary sequence of “Tip’s Collar” spelled out a message! 😉
Tip has been wearing the collar ever since the guy with the eyepatch gave it to him. It’s all there in the archive. It does look a bit funny in the strip with the puppets (http://skin-horse.com/comic/electronic-mail/), though.
It’s still missing on 2019-11-09 as well, but that strip doesn’t show up in the archive for this chapter because it has the wrong chapter title on the page.
I’m also still curious about Tip’s top being bold purple on 2019-11-20, but then it’s been dark blue ever since.
It reappears on 11-13 immediately after a panel where Tip’s neck is hidden by his hand. Before 11-08 was changed, it also disappeared immediately after a panel where Tip’s neck is hidden by his hand. I think 11-08 was right the first time, but 11-23 was wrong the first time.
Which is pretty solid existential horror for a wacky webcomic. But then anything riffing on “Annihilation” … (Especially if they have the book series in mind, which is an order of magnitude creepier than the movie.)
Pretty much why I mentioned “Who Goes There?” the other day. Often looked like the duplicates didn’t know they were duplicates—or worked hard to give that impression.
Another fine example of a Spark engaging his intellect too rapidly for his self-preservation instinct to help him! ^_^
Funny… in this case, he strikes me more as a minion who had a rare moment of clarity, but was too stupid to keep his mouth shut.
We lose more minions that way. Thank goodness for revivification.
We call that the von Zinzer effect.
In this case, however, Pierson is the inventor of the eyeball-razor chimp and the murder hospital Dr Taintor refers to, so I’m going with madboy.

ah, so that’s why it’s a murder hospital!
“We’ve got monsters, madmen and murderers. Any more ‘M’s you can think of? If so, we’ll probably have them next!”
Mulch …
Musicians, mechanics, metahumans, mimes, and morons.
Mimes?! Now that’s scary!
So you think musicians are scary
One word: KISS
The Knights in Stanley’s Service?
😛
speaking of mulch, how about mendicants
Many many moons ago…
Monster metal-munching moon mice . . .
So, Peirson is right, and the sweaters are a red herring. Phillips never was Phillips, but just the catalyst to get them to kill off their own members.
But what of the Knitting Ninja?
Is Tip’s missing collar a mistake or a clue?
It is becoming more than a little perplexing, isn’t it?
Given Shaenon & Jeff’s penchant for elaborate setups, it must be significant as well as deliberate. It wouldn’t surprise me if the one-off binary sequence of “Tip’s Collar” spelled out a message! 😉
I see it in panel 1; there’s just not much of it showing
The image has been altered. It wasn’t there when the comic was first uploaded.

It used to be missing starting at 2019-11-08. It’s still absent (as I write this) in 2019-11-11 and 2019-11-12

‘Murder Hospital’ is my favorite phrase of the day.
I’m waiting for the soap opera on Netflix.
I <3 Robots indeed!
Of course, it could be the duplicates are unaware they are duplicates until they are, shall we say, activated…
If they are duplicated accurately enough, it would include their memories and thinking, so that would indeed likely be the case.
Which is pretty solid existential horror for a wacky webcomic. But then anything riffing on “Annihilation” … (Especially if they have the book series in mind, which is an order of magnitude creepier than the movie.)

Convenient it has one of those …
Don’t touch him, he might be infectious.
Oop! Too late. Oh, well…
What if the vector of infection is the sweaters and only a Tip makeover can save the victims?
The good news is this suggests the originals are not destroyed during the duplication process.
Surviving the diagnostic wing of the murder hospital, on the other hand…
Guys! I’ve got it! Collared Tip is real. Collarless Tip is a swamp clone!
Alternately, since we still don’t know what happened in the Missing Time, collarless Tip is the real one, because the swamp clone stole it from him.
Someone’s getting duct-taped to a ****ing couch before we’re done here.
Well yes, but that was pretty much guaranteed before plant Things were involved.
Is it Friday already?
Pierson is realizing that sometimes, it’s just better to keep your mouth shut.
Peirson is realizing that just a teensy bit too late.
I guess they don’t activate once their cover is blown then.
Ahh, so a combination of Night Trap and The Thing
