So apparently, the sounds pikas make are derived from the English name of their species, like pokemon.
I’m pretty certain you have that backwards. The English name of their species would be derived from the sound they make. They made the sound first, the English name came later.
It would be amusing that way though.
“Oh, we’re called Pikas? Guess we should start making that noise.”
